Part of what makes this job so much fun is that we get to watch kids, in real time, get better at an exponential rate. Here are five athletes from around the state that improved so much so that they were impossible to ignore.    It is nearly impossible to improve upon what Chloe's been doing for the last year-plus. Being named libero for Munciana's Samurai (read: 18-1) and the ONLY sophomore on that roster is the culmination of all of the hard work and preparation she's put into this game. Already earning All-State honors in her short time at Yorktown, Miss Ritchie is a “coach on the floor”, and directs traffic defensively and in serve receive better than most defenders in any class.     Punching WAY above her weight class, Ali is a quick, accurate and athletic setter that has flown under the radar for her entire career, and is starting to receive overdue attention. The heart and soul of Greensburg's young core, Miss Wells is fully capable of running either a 5-1 or a 6-2 at the next level. Some will overlook her because of her size. Yes, she's smaller than the average setter, but to make up for it in foot speed, athleticism, jumping ability and sheer will is the type of kid I would recruit to simply have in the gym and make everyone around her better.     A more accomplished right side than a middle, Hadley's ability to hit every shot in the book AND make up for inaccurate setting by “bettering the ball” got her on our radar. Her size is good on defense as well—-long arms and a strong upper body make her a solid blocker. Most of the time, right sides just hammer away at every set they receive, regardless of tempo, situation or readiness. Hadley's ability to quickly identify what she can do with each and every set she receives, resulting in a minimal amount of errors, is going to carry her forward throughout the rest of her high school and club career.     Already earning high school honors in western Indiana for her abilities with the libero jersey on, Ella is a plug-and-play defender for any program looking to enhance their libero cadre at the next level. Quick with her feet and calm in her platform, most attacks and serves that come her way end up being passed to target, regardless of situation or direction. As we get further into club season, I'm going to pay closer attention to Ella, as her meteoric rise will make every team she's a part of better—-forcing me to change that ranking number from triple to double digits sooner rather than later.     As a rare six-footer on the pin for Lutheran, Lillian is a long and lean attacker that can hit consistently at her max jump and scores points regularly because of it. I'd like to see a little more lift in her legs when she jumps to attack, but her skill set right now has definitely caught our attention early on in her career. Still with a little work to do in the back row, she's got the work ethic and diligence to improve that part of her game—-raising her stock even more in the near future.
