Weekend 2 of the USAV Iowa Regionals went down this past weekend at the RecPlex in West Des Moines. The 15U Division featured really good teams and players competing at a high level throughout.

*A note on who's featured in this write-ups: They're student-athletes I'd not yet written evaluations for this club season. Plenty of players stood out in West Des Moines that have evaluations from the campaign.

Leffel was one of the prospects I was most interested in seeing at the USAV Iowa Regional during late March in West Des Moines. She'd impressed as a Six Pack setter in past seasons but had moved to libero this year as a member of United 15-1 Elite. Wearing the jersey most of the weekend, and chipping in at setter when she was not, Leffel helped the team win the title and with it a National Division bid at this summer's USAV Nationals in Indianapolis. She's taller for the back row, which helps her cover a lot of the court. Athleticism and lateral quickness also contribute to success there. Leffel flows well with the action and puts herself in position for precise passes. When she's at the net, her sets lead attackers into prime position to end points. Leffel also holds up well defensively in the front row. She averaged 5.3 assists, 1.7 digs, .7 kills and .6 blocks in 59 sets as a Sherrard freshman last fall.

Decker has continued growing into one of the top back-row performers in Iowa's 2029 Class. She showed progress from last club season to her ninth-grade year at Wapsie Valley this past fall. It was obvious another step forward was taken when watching her compete at the USAV Iowa Regionals during late March in West Des Moines. Decker held it down in the back row for a Six Pack outfit that finished second, securing an American Division bid in this summer's USAV Nationals in Indianapolis. She was up to the task against a strong group of 15U attackers at the regional. Decker brings athleticism, lateral quickness and sharp reflexes to the court, which leads to proper positioning for pinpoint passes. She's technically sound when digging up the ball and has a valuable knack for flowing along with a play until its over. The ninth-grader came up with 283 digs in 100 sets for a Warrior team that reached the Class 2A state tournament in the fall.

Bryan was one of the top back-rowers in Iowa's 2029 Class when scouting her during the last club campaign. She continued making that case when I saw towards the end of the prep regular season at the Westside Invite in Cedar Rapids. The freshman showed out again when starting at libero for Dowling Catholic at the state tournament. It led to me expecting a lot then watching her again at the USAV Iowa Regional during late March in West Des Moines. Bryan did not disappoint. She was a bright spot for PowerPlex, running balls down in defending against the attack and starting her team's offense with precise passes off of serve-receiver opportunities. Bryan is a kid most opponents look to avoid when competing against PowerPlex, but she forces her way into the action on many occasions with how much court she can cover. Bryan is athletic and moves well side to side. She picks up on tendencies from the other team, too.

Scherbring is a kid that's really improved during the last year. I noticed that when watching her at the M1 Rochester Elite Scrimmages at the beginning of January. She'd made another jump when seeing her compete at the USAV Iowa Regional during late March in West Des Moines. Against a formidable group of 15U attackers in the event, Scherbring performed consistently well for a CIA squad that finished third and earned an American Division bid to the USAV Nationals this summer in Indianapolis. She stands out for her quickness and sharp reflexes in the back row. It leads to her covering a lot of the floor and reaching volleyballs that others would not. A technically sound passer, Scherbring deals well with pace by turning it around with accuracy. She communicates well.

Stewart has improved each time I've scouted her in person the last few years. The Rock Island (IL) High freshman sharpened her game across the board and become more consistent. She's a good athlete that flows well around the court, usually getting to the right spots and keeping her team in the play. Stewart does well in working off of her team's block and narrowing the path to success for opponents on the attack. Quick reflexes and good reads lead to her covering off of the block. She's a crisp passer that picks up information she can use throughout a match. Stewart enjoyed a solid ninth-grade season for Rocky, averaging 3.8 digs in 57 sets. Her 41 assists spoke to her skill in setting the two ball. Stewart is one to watch moving forward as an ascending prospect.
