We're coming down to the wire here. Just in a few weeks teams will be duking it out in Orlando and Indianapolis looking to be crowned a national champion!

First, we have to go into the downtime of May. Every year there is one tournament to commence what I call the "regular season" of club volleyball before heading into June where we see the "post season" begin. There's no better place to be in the midwest to commence that regular season than Can Am Classic in Detroit!

There are a slew of dandies throughout this tournament. They aren't all in the open division! The Premier division for the 16s division is just as chock full of potential that you need to keep an eye on. Here are six of the best taking part in the 16 Premier Division at Can Am this weekend in Detroit.

Alexis Donavan - High Performance

I have been really enjoying to see this players ascent in her career. While she showed tons of promise last year for Michigan Elite 3s team, Alexis Donavan has only continued to improve and better her game. Dare I say, Donavan may be one of the dark horses in this class. Her arm is developing into this nice whip and she's finding this vast range of shots. This will be the first I see of her since the fall and I am curious to see her overall game.

Noelle Hughes - Level Up

She may be playing in the 16s division, but Noelle Hughes is ONLY a freshman! And this is one heckuva freshman at that! Hughes is growing jack of all trades. She's a sheer point scorer and can do it from just about anywhere. Traditionally, you can find her in the middle, but its nothing new to see her bouncing balls from the pins or storming out of the back row attack. This is another one I have yet to see this club season in person, but have been high up on since her 13s days where she was showcasing all this sort of potential.

Emme Dorchy - Michigan Elite

This is another one of those players that could be a bit of a dark horse prospect in the class. While Emme Dorchy is slotted in the middle, she can do just about anything needed along the net. Dorchy hits a heavy ball and can be quite an alarming attacker when her team can find the pass. Her block has come a long ways since making the switch in clubs which has only elevated her game further.

Ava Rewalt - Michigan Elite

I have been high up on this libero for quite sometime, since her 14s year in fact. The more and more Ava Rewalt finds her groove in the libero position, the higher I find her ceiling to be. She's the kind of athlete that will run through a wall to bring back a ball and the one that has no problem stepping into a wide open net bomber. She's as tough as they come and is one of the bright spots on the court for 16 Elite.

Maya Lorenzo - Monster

From one libero to another, Maya Lorenzo really caught some eyes last year in her 15s year of club. She's built similarly to Rewalt in her approach to the game and that she is gritty. In an environment with high octane attackers and driving servers, Lorenzo finds herself thriving! The move to Monsters has been a step below where she could be competing, but it allows her to really take up vast court space.

Stephanie Lulaj - Unified

Rounding out the dandies in 16 Premier, take a look at another libero with loads of potential, Stephanie Lulaj. This is a player I find myself getting frequent catch-ups on through out the variety of camps and clinics and it really gives you a good barometer of her growth and success in the sport. Lulaj has really come into her own these last several months, coming off of a good fall with Notre Dame Prep and continuing that with Unified this club season.
