Five Middles to Keep on the Radar at Lone Star Regionals

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Texas is set to host one of the biggest and most exciting tournaments of the late portion of the club volleyball season this weekend, when the Lone Star Regionals come to Houston.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The tournament, which will reunite nearly 700 teams across 18 divisions between Saturday and Sunday at the George R. Brown Convention Center, in downtown Houston, also serves as a national qualifier, adding more charm and weight to one of the most anticipated tournaments of the year.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Teams from all over the Lone Star State will make the trip to Houston to compete and, with them, will be some of the most talented players in the state. A six-footer, she likes to hit a little bit of a higher set in the middle, which allows her to make contact with the ball at a high point and go around opposing blockers. Yeagar has a solid blocking presence, too, and is always ready to handle overpasses and oversets, sending the ball straight down. Her big frame gives her team a strong presence at the net and her solid footwork allows her to make a big impact with her blocking, moving quickly and playing aggressively. Bigley also thrives offensively, taking advantage of her high contact point and showing good variation with her swings. The tallest player on the team, she can play anywhere at the net, but is most commonly used in the middle, where she can make more of an impact with her blocking. DeMarr is also very productive offensively, making the most of her high contact point and decision-making to pick the right shots to put the ball down. Standing at 6'2", she's very prolific offensively, hitting a quick set in the middle and fully stretching her arm, so she can hit over the top of rising opposing blockers. Sawtelle's timing on offense is impeccable, which allows her to capitalize even when setters push the ball to her from well off the net. Also capable of playing on the right, she has a solid all-around game that makes her perform different roles at a high level. Thornton is not the tallest, but she is very explosive and battles anyone at the net with power and intensity. She demonstrates tremendous firepower in her offense and can hit many different sets in the middle.
