Texas 2027 Watch List Setters Vol 1

Who are players that all college coaches should be giving a legitimate shot to? We have the answer in our Official Watch List. We have scoured the entire state to bring to you players who deserve to have a shot to be recruited by scouts and college coaches all across the nation. This article series will be highlighting them and what they bring to the table. Let's get to know some setters who are listed and why.    [player_tooltip player_id='482073' first='Cam' last='Serna'], a Class of 2027 setter from Antonian College Preparatory in San Antonio and [program_tooltip program_id='431254' first='San' last='Antonio Juniors'] Volleyball Club, is the starting setter on a TAPPS Class 6A State Championship program and brings an energy and competitive presence to the position that goes well beyond what the physical measurements suggest. At 5'6" she has made a deliberate mission out of proving that size does not define what a setter can do at the next level, and the way she plays backs that up every time she steps on the court. Her touch on the ball is clean and consistent, and she delivers with a release and tempo that gives her hitters the timing information they need rather than forcing them to adjust on every approach. She plays fast by nature, pushing the pace and keeping defenses uncomfortable rather than settling into a rhythm they can read and prepare for. The confidence she plays with is infectious, and there is a command to how she runs the offense that makes the players around her perform at a higher level because of her presence. Cam is a watch list setter who has already won at the highest level of Texas private school volleyball and brings a championship mentality to go along with a skill set that college programs at every level should be evaluating now.     [player_tooltip player_id='575000' first='Mariah' last='Brown'], a Class of 2027 setter from Klein High School and [program_tooltip program_id='499169' first='MoCo' last='MAVS'] Volleyball Club, is a player whose passion for the position and hunger to compete at the next level come through clearly every time she steps on the court. She brings above-average physical dimensions to the setter role, giving her the frame to deliver from a higher release point and maintain a net presence that keeps opposing offenses honest when she is in the front row. She processes the game with a maturity that tells you the work being put in away from the gym is intentional and consistent, and her ability to keep the offense moving and her hitters confident in pressure moments is a quality that does not develop on its own. Her footwork getting to the ball is deliberate and her setting mechanics are built on a clean technical foundation, which is what allows her to stay effective even when the pass takes her out of her comfort zone. Competing in a Klein ISD district full of high-level programs has sharpened her decision-making speed and the competitive toughness that shows up in her game when the match is close and the set matters. Mariah is a 2027 setter who plays with genuine love for the position and the kind of competitive drive that college coaches at every level find worth investing in. [player_tooltip player_id='677178' first='Riley' last='Wong'], a Class of 2027 setter from Frisco Liberty High School and [program_tooltip program_id='431200' first='Madfrog' last=''] Volleyball Club, has put together a resume that makes her one of the more decorated setters on the entire Texas Watch List. Named to the Texas Sports Writers Association 6A All-State Team as a sophomore, she earned District Setter of the Year honors and enters her senior year as a three-year varsity starter who has been running competitive offenses since she was a freshman. Prep Dig scouts have noted directly that she is consistent with her footwork and always gets her feet set before jumping, which is the kind of technical detail that separates setters who are functional at the high school level from ones who project cleanly into a college system. She is equally comfortable running a 5-1 or a 6-2, which tells you the tactical understanding of the position is advanced and that she can adapt to whatever system a college program runs rather than needing to be built around. Her seventh year of national club competition tells you the investment in developing this craft has been ongoing and deliberate from a very young age. Riley is a proven, decorated setter who has been recognized at the statewide level as one of the best in her class and college programs should not need more convincing than that.
