Storm College Showcase Standouts and Recap

The Storm College Showcase once again attracted an impressive collection of talent, bringing together some of Arizona's top athletes alongside players from across the country. The event provided a valuable opportunity for athletes to compete in front of college coaches, gain exposure, and test themselves against high-level competition. From well-known standouts who continued to elevate their stock to emerging prospects who seized the moment, there was no shortage of players making an impact throughout the day. Every position group was loaded with talent, featuring explosive attackers, dynamic setters, relentless defenders, and dominant presences at the net. We spent the day evaluating athletes across the gym, and these are the players who stood out most through their athleticism, skill set, competitiveness, and overall ability to influence the match.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Showcase Breakdown </h2>   While we were only able to attend Day 2 of the showcase, we came away extremely impressed with the event and everything Storm Volleyball put together. The showcase was exceptionally well organized, engaging, and designed to promote every athlete in attendance—not just Storm players. It was evident throughout the day that the focus was on creating opportunities for all participants to gain exposure and connect with college coaches.   One aspect that stood out was the structure of the event. Storm coaches handled the on-court instruction and drills, allowing college coaches to step back, observe, evaluate, and provide meaningful feedback to athletes in real time. This setup gave coaches the opportunity to truly get to know the players while watching them compete in a natural environment. During positional training, college coaches also rotated courts to ensure they had the chance to evaluate every position and every athlete.   Another highlight was the educational component led by Terri. Throughout the showcase, she facilitated discussions with the college coaches on topics ranging from program culture and recruiting expectations to best practices for athletes navigating the recruiting process. She also provided time for open questions, creating valuable learning opportunities for both athletes and families.   Overall, it was an insightful, informative, and professionally run event that delivered tremendous value. The energy in the gym was contagious too. For athletes looking to gain exposure, learn more about the recruiting process, and compete in front of college coaches, this showcase was well worth the investment.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Standouts</h2>   Although there were many athletes who stood out, and we will be sure to cover them all, here are a few initial who caught our eye.    It was great to see [player_tooltip player_id='882728' first='Megan' last='Davidson'] back on the court at this showcase. She was one of the most impressive setters we watched during the high school season, playing a key role in leading her team to a state championship. With her absence from the club scene, we've certainly missed seeing her compete, so it was exciting to watch her back in action—and she hasn't missed a beat.   Davidson showcased all of the qualities that make her such an effective floor leader. She consistently communicated with her teammates, moved efficiently to every ball, and delivered a quick, repeatable release that kept her hitters in rhythm. Her decision-making was sharp, and she commanded her court with confidence and poise. Simply put, she possesses everything coaches look for in a setter: leadership, consistency, court awareness, and the ability to elevate the players around her.   Beyond the technical aspects of setting, Davidson's volleyball IQ continues to stand out. She reads the game exceptionally well, processes information quickly, and makes smart decisions that maximize the strengths of the athletes around her. She was vocal, engaged, and invested in every rep, showing the same competitive edge and leadership qualities that helped make her high school team so successful.   It's easy to see why she was such an important piece of a championship-caliber team. Megan combines the physical tools, technical consistency, and leadership presence that coaches covet in a setter. After seeing her perform at this showcase, we're excited to follow her journey moving forward and expect her to continue making a significant impact every time she steps on the court.     We always enjoy seeing athletes travel to Arizona and take advantage of opportunities to showcase their talent, and Emily Dehart was a fantastic addition to the gym. She brought a high level of energy and competitiveness to every session while demonstrating a well-rounded skill set that allowed her to impact the game in multiple ways. Whether she was serving, defending, or handling the ball, Emily consistently showed that she could be relied upon to execute her role effectively and compete at a high level.   One of the first things that stood out was her heavy topspin serve. She generated excellent pace on the ball and consistently put pressure on opponents, forcing difficult passes and creating opportunities for her side to gain an advantage early in rallies. Beyond the service line, her ball control and consistent delivery allowed her to remain steady throughout the day. She played with confidence, stayed composed under pressure, and demonstrated the versatility that coaches value in athletes who can contribute in a variety of situations.   What impressed us just as much as her physical skills was her approach to the showcase. Emily was incredibly coachable throughout the event, embracing feedback and making adjustments almost immediately. Every time a coach challenged her to improve something, she responded with a willingness to learn and a determination to get better. That growth mindset, combined with her strong work ethic and positive attitude, allowed her to maximize every rep and make a lasting impression.     [player_tooltip player_id='888928' first='Celia' last='Suey'] was one of the most impressive athletes in the gym throughout the showcase. Her explosiveness, combined with a technically sound approach, makes her a legitimate offensive threat every time she takes a swing. Whether attacking in system or out of transition, she consistently found ways to put pressure on the defense with her power, elevation, and ability to score from multiple areas of the court.   What stood out just as much as her athleticism was her approach to the game. Celia was engaged in every drill, communicated well with teammates and coaches, and showed a genuine desire to improve with every rep. She absorbed feedback, applied it immediately, and competed with purpose throughout the day. That level of coachability and commitment to growth is difficult to teach and often separates good players from great ones.   Combined with her smart shot selection, physicality, and leadership qualities, Suey possesses the complete package that college coaches love to see. She has the tools to make a significant impact at the next level and continues to prove why she's one of the most exciting prospects in her class.     [player_tooltip player_id='888751' first='Brynne' last='Harwood'] absolutely impressed throughout the showcase. We're accustomed to seeing her excel in a setting role, so it was especially exciting to watch her focus on the attacking side of the game and showcase another dimension of her skill set. She proved she's far more than just a setter, displaying a well-rounded game that caught our attention from start to finish.   Harwood was strong at the net, consistently establishing herself as a presence with her blocking, while her quick, efficient arm swing allowed her to score effectively from a variety of situations. Her ability to attack the line stood out in particular, as she repeatedly found ways to challenge defenders and create scoring opportunities. Beyond the physical tools, Brynne demonstrated excellent court awareness, making adjustments throughout the day and showing a strong understanding of the game.   Perhaps most impressive was the way she approached every drill. She competed with energy, embraced coaching, and worked relentlessly to improve with every rep. The combination of her character, work ethic, and volleyball IQ matched her talent level, making her one of the more memorable performers we evaluated. Brynne's versatility and willingness to do whatever her team needs continue to make her a player worth following.     We were thrilled to see standout setter [player_tooltip player_id='888731' first='Marcella' last='Landers'] among the talented athletes in attendance. From the moment she stepped on the court, she demonstrated why she has earned such a strong reputation. Landers brought a high level of energy, leadership, and court awareness to every session, consistently making the players around her better.   One of the most impressive aspects of her game was her ability to quickly build chemistry with hitters she had never played with before. In a showcase environment where athletes are constantly rotating and learning each other's tendencies, Marcella adapted seamlessly. She took the time to communicate with her attackers, understand their preferences, and deliver sets that allowed them to perform at their best. Her hands were clean, her tempo was consistent, and she did an excellent job creating rhythm for her offense.   Her work ethic was evident in every drill and every rally. Whether chasing down a tough pass, organizing her side of the court, or making an adjustment after feedback, Marcella approached the day with purpose and professionalism. We were especially impressed by the quality of connections she was able to establish in such a short amount of time. Her combination of technical skill, leadership, volleyball IQ, and competitiveness made her one of the most impressive setters we watched throughout the showcase.     We absolutely love watching [player_tooltip player_id='888739' first='Kami' last='Penrose'] compete every time she steps on the court. She is the type of player who consistently finds ways to impact the game, whether she's scoring points, making a key defensive play, or providing the energy that fuels her team. Her passion for volleyball is impossible to miss, and that enthusiasm is matched by a high volleyball IQ that allows her to make smart decisions in every phase of the game.   Offensively, Penrose does an excellent job mixing power with placement. She understands how to attack different defensive schemes and consistently finds ways to score with intelligent shot selection rather than relying solely on strength. At the net, she's a force as a blocker, using her timing and court awareness to disrupt opposing hitters and create opportunities for her team. Her ability to read the game allows her to be effective even when she isn't directly involved in the play.   We also had the opportunity to watch her showcase some middle-back defense, and she handled the responsibility extremely well. Her ability to contribute as a six-rotation pin only reinforces the versatility and upside she possesses. Players who can impact the game in all six rotations are highly valuable, and Penrose continues to prove she has the tools to be one of those athletes. Between her competitiveness, athleticism, defensive abilities, and natural feel for the game, she has a very bright future ahead, and we're excited to continue following her journey.     Despite being one of the youngest passers in the gym, [player_tooltip player_id='746646' first='Kalenna' last='Thiele'] never ceases to amaze us with her defensive abilities and overall feel for the game. It's easy to forget that she has only just completed middle school when you watch her compete alongside some of the top talent at the showcase. She carried herself with confidence, composure, and maturity well beyond her years, never looking out of place against older and more experienced athletes.   What stood out most wasn't just her skill level—it was her commitment to learning. Throughout the entire event, Kalenna remained locked in, asking questions, and making adjustments as the day progressed. That willingness to absorb information and immediately apply it is one of the qualities that separates high-level players, and it was on full display throughout the showcase.   In serve receive, she looked calm and steady, handling pressure with confidence and providing reliable first contacts. What really caught our attention, however, was her ability to read the game. Time and time again, she anticipated plays, positioned herself well, and made defensive reads that many players much older than her struggle to make.   For a player entering high school, her volleyball IQ, defensive instincts, and coachability are incredibly impressive. The foundation is already there, and her dedication to continuous improvement suggests there is still plenty of growth ahead. Kalenna is a player whose future is extremely bright, and if this showcase was any indication, she's only scratching the surface of what she's capable of becoming.     [player_tooltip player_id='524282' first='Reagan' last='Williams'] is the type of player who naturally elevates everyone around her. From the moment she stepped on the court, her energy, positivity, and leadership were impossible to miss. She was constantly encouraging teammates, communicating throughout drills, and bringing a contagious enthusiasm that helped create a competitive and supportive environment. Those intangibles alone make a difference, but when paired with her talent level, it's easy to see why she's a player college coaches should keep firmly on their radar.   Williams showcased a complete skill set throughout the showcase. Offensively, she demonstrated the ability to score from multiple areas of the court, attacking confidently from anywhere across the front row. She understands how to balance power with precision, knowing when to unload a full swing and when to use smart shot placement to keep defenses guessing. That offensive versatility makes her difficult to defend and allows her to impact matches in a variety of ways.   Defensively, Reagan was equally impressive. She moved well, covered a lot of ground, and consistently showed the hustle and determination that coaches love to see. Her communication remained constant, helping organize her side of the court while keeping teammates engaged throughout the day. We were especially impressed by her back-row attacking ability, which added another dimension to her game and highlighted her potential as a true six-rotation player.   What makes Williams stand out is the combination of skill, competitiveness, and leadership she brings every time she steps on the floor. She's the kind of athlete who impacts the game beyond the stat sheet, making plays, energizing teammates, and finding ways to contribute in every phase of the match.
