Kalenna is redefining what high-level defense looks like — and she’s doing it with a maturity far beyond her years. Her ability to read hitters, anticipate angles, and react instantly against elite competition was one of the most impressive defensive performances of the tournament. She doesn’t just chase balls down — she positions early, stays balanced, and controls first contact with intention. Her team finished 2nd place, just shy of that Gold, and she kept them right in there.
What makes it even more remarkable? She’s an 8th grader playing up on a 15s team — and you would never know it. There’s no hesitation in her game, no moment too big. She moves with confidence, communicates like a veteran, and consistently puts herself in the right spot.
Her serve was another weapon. Tough, aggressive, and strategic — it disrupted opposing offenses and kept her team alive in several tight battles. Kalenna doesn’t just play defense; she changes momentum from the back row. The future is incredibly bright for this young libero.

A libero at #1?? Well let me tell you that if you haven’t seen Kalenna play you are missing out. Kalenna can do a lot of things at a high level on the volleyball court. First, she is a elite level athlete as her footwork and transition movement is way ahead of her peers. With her footwork being so elite her defensive range becomes exceptional, covering ground quickly and effortlessly, her quick feet allow her to make tough plays look routine.
On the defensive end she plays with advanced anticipation. She reads hitters early, recognizes tendencies, and positions herself before contact, allowing her to dig balls that most players at this stage don’t even touch, which probably explains why she has to play up a year. She sees the game at a level higher over her peers and her court IQ shows that during matches. Most notably from me is how she handles out-of-system situations. She has amazing hands for a libero and can keep her team in system even when they are out of system. She can step in at any point and deliver hittable balls to hitters from all over the floor.
At this stage, she’s not just the best libero in her class — she’s the best player in this class and one could argue one of the best liberos regardless of class out there. If you haven’t seen her play I would highly encourage you to get out to some matches this year and see her play at this high level!
