Defensive Specialists on the rise in Latest 2027 Rankings

A team can't always control size on the court, but can control defense. These first touch specialists consistently put their teams in good position to run efficient offenses. These players pride themselves on that. She only dives out of necessity, yet stays under control. Berger reads hitters well and quickly reverses her steps on deflected balls. Berger is quick to make good touches then run up to the net to provide protection on blocks.     Canter is back hoping to build off a nice junior season. She improved her touch and footwork during club season. She steps to balls and makes sound first touches to jumpstart the offense. She steps back to get to balls hit over her head and puts forth good out of system balls so hitters can smack down balls across the net. Her jump serves to different zones produces a lot of points.     Camenzind's discipline on the court is off the charts. Camenzind calls for balls then steps into them to make sound two to three-point passes. Camenzind does a great job making adjustments on redirected balls. Camenzind is sound on defense and serve reception. She only dives when needed. She keeps a lot of plays alive, yet maintains ball control so teams can get into a good offensive rhythm. Camenzind does not hesitate to extend arms to get to balls. Camenzind has developed sound jump float serves and puts up quality out of system sets.     Wolff (pictured) uses great range to keep a number of plays alive. She can come in to cover tips to the middle quickly. Wolff reads hitters well and uses a good platform to make pristine passes. Wolff showed she can handle well-struck crosses. Wolff slides when needed and sends free balls across with a purpose. Her ball control needs some work, but that will come with her work ethic.     Roberts has developed great versatility to help the Hornets take steps forward. Roberts makes sound passes in the back row then can turn around and take sound hits from both the front and back row. Roberts hits sinking line drive shots from the six zone to the opposite six zone. Roberts takes good off shots to opposite corners and is working on sound cut shots to the four zone on go routes. She places off shots to side and back lines.     Akers is productive at all six spots on the court. Akers is sound on first contacts both defensively and on serve reception. Akers can make good passes then quickly move into attack mode. Akers gets on top of balls and puts great power into them. Akers tools blocks and mixes in off shots to open parts of the court. Akers tips over double blocks if defensive specialists are playing back. She can also paint lines.
