Most of these kids already are in high school. Their recruiting processes are underway in various stages. Now that we're at the end of the season, however, it's a good time to check in on the 14Us, many of whom will be freshmen in a few months.   I did just that last week at the USAV Junior National Tournament in Indianapolis. The age group impressed and foreshadowed what should be strong contributions to the prep scene in 2026 and beyond. It seemed fitting to highlight those student-athletes and a good idea to break them down positionally.   Here's a closer look at outside hitters that performed well on the sport's biggest stage:    Six-rotation outside hitters are not all the same. Many of them are strong from the pin and developing defensively. Others balance their talents in the front and back rows. Strohbehn resides in the latter group. In helping Select win the Iowa Regional and finish 11th in the National Division at USAV Nationals, the incoming freshman delivered consistent contributions all around the court. Her swing is effective thanks to a sound vertical and power. Strohbehn moves well laterally and acts fast in defending the back row. There's potential for significant growth across the board, making Strohbehn one to watch.     I watched Rockets 14s play periodically throughout the season. There were times when Statler was standing out through six rotations. She's fundamentally sound with a lot of room remaining for skills growth. At USAV Nationals, I saw Statler operating as a three-rotation outside. Swinging from the pin is the most advanced part of her game at this point. Statler achieves nice lift on the vertical leap and generates predigious power for her age. Long arms aid in that endeavor and in throwing up an effective block. There are opportunities available at Mid-Prairie after graduation losses, and Statler has the potential to help out early.     CIA 14s saved some of their best volleyball for season's end. The Cedar Valley-based club's representatives at the USAV Junior Nationals finished fifth in the USA Division, tops among teams in the program and among the best finishes for an Iowa squad this year. Phelps was a key piece of the puzzle, providing power at the pin. It's a heavy hammer, especially for the age group. She does well in finding holes in the defense and ending points with authority. Phelps is a good athlete with a chance to contribute more all around the court as she sharpens her volleyball skills, which will lead to consistency and continued ascent toward a sizable ceiling.     Six Pack 14s enjoyed a memorable club campaign culminating in competitive play at the USAV Nationals. Streeter shined as a six-rotation outside with keen skills. She looked natural and proved effective whether swinging from the pin or gliding to dig the ball up in the back row. Streeter is a fundamentally sound all-around volleyballer, one that makes players around her better by contributing whatever is needed at the time. She generates good power on the outside and makes the makable plays. Streeter flows well with the action at the net and in consistently digging the ball up in the back row.     United 14s played above their seed at the USAV Nationals, reaching the gold bracket in the American Division. Throughout the impressive run, Gaffey was getting the job done through six rotations. She played consistently well, limiting mistakes and coming up with impactful plays on a regular basis. Gaffey is an explosive athlete with leaping ability and hang time. Points end when she gets a clean swing. There's power and precision on the attack. Gaffey's back-row performance also is super steady. She moves well laterally, flashes sharp reflexes and tracks the ball keenly.
