Subscribe to follow these freshmen as they bring composure to their teams this fall.

Composure often shows first. Seven 2030 freshmen described the same skill in different words: staying focused point to point and never letting one play carry into the next. Here's who they are, and how they've already built that habit into their game.

Camille Day plays with a craftiness at the net, an explosiveness in her attack, and a composure she wants coaches to notice right alongside her positive mindset and the way she encourages the people around her. A next-point mentality has become central to how she carries herself through a match, she moves forward into every rally with confidence, no matter what just happened. Day is playing in her freshman year at Mater Dei with real excitement, both for the level of competition ahead and for the chance to be part of the program's standout environment, and her motivation comes from a genuine determination and love for the sport. Her goals for her debut season include sharpening every part of her game and gaining real exposure against high-level players, with an eventual Division I goal driving her long term. She shows up for teammates with steady encouragement on every single play, believing that being a consistent presence removes uncertainty for the whole team.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

Evie Leipper gets genuinely excited when her teammates succeed, and that focus and positivity are exactly what she wants a college coach to notice first when they watch her play. A coach taught her a small physical reset, something as simple as a clap or a deep breath, and she's found that this tiny action helps her move on quickly and prepare fully for the next ball. Leipper is looking forward to playing with older, more experienced teammates at San Marcos. What drives her is the high standard she holds herself to, one she knows she'll be pushed to meet at a higher level of competition. As a freshman on varsity, she's aiming for a Division I program in a strong academic location to take notice of her.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

Gabriella Cruz competes for every single point, and she backs that up with constant communication that makes things easier for everyone around her on the court. She considers herself a natural leader, someone who gets along easily with teammates and stays positive no matter the situation. A coaching adjustment taught her to focus entirely on the next point, and that mental reset has done more than steady her game, it's brought out other qualities in her too, like leadership and consistency. Cruz is excited about the jump to a higher, more competitive level of volleyball this freshman year, and she's motivated by watching her own progress alongside her team's growth as a whole. Her goals for her debut season include earning playing time and becoming a trustworthy piece of her team, with an eye on making varsity by her sophomore year, and she's looking for a college program with a strong team culture and a coach known for developing players.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

Kaylani Perez moves straight to the next play with a clear head, and she works to make her next touch even better than the last. She points to her work ethic and her positive attitude as what makes her stand out, and she describes herself as coachable, someone who listens and does whatever her team needs. A lesson from a private lesson reinforced that mindset directly, her coach reminded her that every point is a fresh opportunity, and that her mental approach matters just as much as her mechanical skill. Perez is excited to play with new teammates and take on a higher level of competition this freshman season, and what keeps her going is knowing that every practice and workout moves her closer to her goals. Her goals for this season include becoming a better player and teammate while finding even more love for the game, and long term she's hoping to play in a college program built on hard work, teamwork, and coachability.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

Leah Caesar resets quickly between plays, using a deep breath and a simple physical cue to shift her focus fully onto the next ball. She backs that mental discipline up by encouraging her teammates in the moments they need it most, helping the whole team stay confident and focused together. Caesar wants a college coach to see her composure and mental toughness on display in every situation, whether the last play went well or not, her goal is to stay positive and keep competing with confidence. She's most excited about the relationships she'll build in her freshman season at Mater Dei, the new friendships and shared memories that come with being part of a hardworking, supportive team. Her goals for her debut season include earning a varsity spot by sophomore year and contributing to a winning culture, and long term she's targeting Division III, wanting both a genuine college experience and the chance to keep competing.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

London Sanders has learned to keep trying rather than get frustrated, a lesson that came from a coach reminding her that if she doesn't get something the first time, she'll get it the next. That persistence now shapes how she talks about her whole game, she wants coaches to notice her defensive skills, her hitting, and her communication, but just as much her commitment to keep working until a play succeeds. Sanders is looking forward to her freshman season at Redondo Union, and what motivates her is her love for the game and the daily opportunity to improve. Her goals for her debut season are to work hard, sharpen her skills, and be the best teammate she can be, and she's looking for a college program built on teamwork, dedication, and players who keep pushing to improve. In tense moments, she reminds her teammates that every point still matters and that a comeback is always possible, telling them "we've got this" and encouraging them to trust each other and keep competing with energy.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

Teana Simmons never gives up on a play, and she brings that same energy to every part of the game, passing, hitting, and cheering on her teammates alike. She takes coaching well and is always looking for ways to improve, and she wants coaches to notice that competitive engagement first. A piece of feedback changed her mental approach entirely, she was told to focus fully on the next point, and while that took practice at first, it's given her far more confidence and consistency throughout a match. Simmons is excited to compete against older, bigger, and stronger opponents this freshman season, seeing it as a real measure of how much she can improve. Her goal is to keep growing every day toward playing college volleyball, and she stays motivated by trusting that every practice and game moves her closer to that goal.

~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

If You Enjoyed This Article, Help Us Keep the Momentum Going

🔥 Athletes

Take time to explore the player profiles featured in this article. Look at how these freshmen talk about staying focused point to point, the breath, the reset, the decision to move forward with confidence. If you're working on your own mental game, this is not the time to compare your timeline to theirs. It's time to look at what's transferable, the specific cue or habit that works for them, and start building your own version of it.

📣 Club Coaches & Directors

Celebrate the athletes from your program who were featured, and use this list as a real conversation starter with your younger players.
