Introducing the First Top 50 in Nebraska 2029 Rankings

This may be an introductory feature, but you've probably seen these names before.   It's finally here. We've mulled over our first set of Nebraska 2029 rankings for a while. Last year's high school season brought a select few freshmen into the spotlight, and the following club campaign expanded our reach even more. That has led us to our first Top 50--a small step in a long trek ahead with the Class of 2029.   We always like to lay out some storylines, trends, and reminders when we have big updates like these. This week will still be stacked with player features and scouting reports, but we're setting the table with today's discussion.   Welcome to the new rankings.     Fine Distinctions   Let's lead off with the most important point of all: the margin between players is so, so small.   Every time we introduce a new ranked list, we emphasize this important point. Rather than viewing this as 50 players ranked in order, consider this a reflection of 50 players who have been especially excellent in the early stages of their prep careers. The order itself is incredibly malleable, and ranking athletes this early is always a difficult process.   We're also not setting a "barrier" between this Top 50 and the current group of watch list athletes. Players on the watch list can--and will--leap into the Top 50 after our next update. It always happens. Athletes develop, improve, and show us sides we haven't seen before. The earlier we are in a class's journey, the more prevalent this trend is.   So, this is just a step. The upcoming high school season could necessitate a cataclysmic overhaul of our list, and the potential for change is as high as it will ever be.     Year of the Setter   The setters are taking over!   We're always eager to see which position groups take command in a set of rankings. Sure, it's easy to load up a list with pin hitters. It's the most plentiful position group on almost any roster, and we'll inevitably have some show-stopping stars on the outside. But if we're establishing an early narrative for Nebraska's Class of 2029, we might be witnessing a major wave of talent at the setter spot.   <figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2026/04/IMG_4008.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-961414" style="width:320px;height:auto" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Kavan</figcaption></figure>   It all starts at the top. [player_tooltip player_id='838311' first='Karsyn' last='Vejraska'], [player_tooltip player_id='846878' first='Maci' last='Falcone'], and [player_tooltip player_id='790090' first='Remi' last='Christiansen'] lead us off in the 2029 list and give us a high-impact setter trio. We'll reiterate our previous point about splitting hairs between spots, and this top three is a perfect example. All three of these signal-callers have made an exceptional impact on the prep stage and could be considered interchangeable. Vejraska and Christiansen were both "overachievers" on the 16s scene this spring.   The setter wave rolls on with [player_tooltip player_id='765196' first='Sofia' last='Meister'], Nebraska Elite 15 Apex's top distributor and a leader with the Great Plains Region All-Star crew. Last year's state tournament was a "coming of age" moment for Meister, who piloted Omaha Westside back to the state semifinals against elite competition.   Our club-hopping tour expands through rising gems like [player_tooltip player_id='961090' first='Maddie' last='O'Neil'] and [player_tooltip player_id='961063' first='Tatum' last='Kavan']. O'Neil's rise to postseason prominence with Club Legacy 15 Alpha has her poised for big breakthroughs at Omaha Westview. Kavan, meanwhile, joins a large list of 2029 setters who can also influence matches through their termination. Put [player_tooltip player_id='847923' first='Andie' last='Blomenkamp'] and [player_tooltip player_id='932980' first='Whitney' last='Pfannenstiel'] in that conversation, too.     Early Prep Impact   Rising to the varsity ranks as a freshman is a tremendous accomplishment, and our 2029 rankings are stacked with players who have already excelled on the prep stage.   <figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2025/12/50-Adriana-Canales.jpg?w=861" alt="" class="wp-image-915084" style="aspect-ratio:0.8408422820805087;width:200px;height:auto" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Canales</figcaption></figure>   Small-town stars are always notable in this regard. We have to give a nod to [player_tooltip player_id='789881' first='Adriana' last='Canales'], the Gering libero who led all Nebraska freshmen last fall with over 550 digs. Defenders tend to get undervalued in volleyball rankings, but Canales' backcourt work was an indispensable part of Gering's rise to the Class B quarterfinals.   Speaking of small-town postseason stars, we're immediately drawn to [player_tooltip player_id='932957' first='Kinlee' last='Hinton'] as a can't-miss terminator in the prep arena. She catalyzed Adams Central's postseason return last fall with 3.5 kills per set and nearly 400 total digs as an outside hitter. Hinton cemented her rankings inclusion during this year's club tenure with South Central NE 15 Black, which wrapped up at USAV Nationals in Indianapolis.   We'll give you one more. [player_tooltip player_id='903133' first='Kyler' last='Jones'] appears to be the next exceptional "utility" hitter for Sumner-Eddyville-Miller. The Mustangs have never been afraid to move their best hitters around, and Jones scored from anywhere en route to nearly 200 kills in Year 1. Expect a few more in 2026.   And early prep impact is clearly not limited to the rural municipalities. Big-city stars like [player_tooltip player_id='904781' first='Hensley' last='Harlan'], [player_tooltip player_id='557036' first='Circe' last='Tallman'], and [player_tooltip player_id='775763' first='Fallyn' last='O'Connell'] have already carved colossal starting roles with their respective schools. They've seen the upper echelon of Nebraska's prep grind already, so they're set for further sophomore growth.     What's Next?   So, where do we go from here?   We can fixate on the current Top 50, but we have so much more on the Class of 2029 agenda. The first step is to grow the player database even more. We added dozens of watch list athletes in this update, and several of them will be featured later this week. But Year 2 of high school competition will offer so many more chances for new 2029s to make themselves known.   Once we've expanded the talent pool, we can do the same to our ranked hierarchy. Perhaps we'll see a Top 100 before long. But beyond sheer quantity, we want to ensure we've had ample time to evaluate and assess the new crew of emergent sophomores.   Prior features have alluded to our changing approach to ranking updates. If the first few weeks of the high school season transform our perspective, we could roll out our next update ahead of the typical quarterly cycle. It's all part of our effort to spotlight as many athletes as possible and get a complete overview of current standouts.   In short, stay tuned.
