Liberos Who Controlled the Back Row at Katy Cy-Fair Tournament

One of the most competitive and traditional high school volleyball preseason events in the Houston area, the Katy ISD-Cy Fair ISD Tournament took place this past weekend, reuniting 48 varsity teams on six high school campuses in the Katy and Cypress regions between Thursday and Saturday. These liberos were highly influential for their teams in the back row:    Cummings played for the Tompkins team that earned six wins and a loss in the tournament. The senior was very consistent and reliable and demonstrated great maturity in her game to lead the team's back row efforts. Cummings paid great attention to detail in her actions and used her outstanding ball control to deal with tough serves and powerful swings. The libero's transition setting was also very consistent, allowing her hitters to score points in out-of-system plays.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2026/08/2J4A0035_7284ed.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1018830" /></figure>    Jenkins was with the College Park team that ended the weekend with six wins and two losses. Playing as a defensive specialist, the sophomore was highly impactful and played a big role in the team's playing system. Jenkins was excellent when playing defense, making a difference with her positioning and showing impressive reflexes and ball control to keep the ball off the floor. She split the court with the team's libero in serve-receive and frequently got opponents out of system with her tricky floater.      Parham helped Deer Park complete their schedule with a positive record of five wins and three losses. The senior demonstrated excellent ball control, and that helped her perform at a high level in the many different aspects of the game of a libero. Parham was particularly impactful on defense, getting in the way of opponents' swings with last-second positioning adjustments and controlling hard-driven balls with consistency. She also stood out for her passing, moving quickly to the ball and being very accurate with her deliveries, and was very precise when she had to set in transition.     St. Amant and her Katy teammates earned four victories and four setbacks in the preseason tournament. The junior was always very calm and clean when making contact with the ball and was very precise and reliable with her actions. A taller libero, St. Amant managed to cover a large area of the court both when passing and playing defense and helped keep her team in system. She didn't put a foot wrong during the day and provided great stability with her consistently efficient game.    <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2026/08/2J4A0063.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1018360" /></figure>    Morales was with the Bridgeland team that got three wins and five losses in their matches. Combining incredible quickness and excellent ball control, she was very active and efficient in the back row for her team. The junior was very productive when playing defense at the left back position, dealing well with both hard-driven swings and tips and demanding a lot from opponents who attempted to score on her. Morales also showed confidence to hand set in transition and was very aggressive with her serving, consistently keeping opponents under pressure when at the service line.      Petnkeu featured for Mayde Creek, taking part in the team's campaign of three wins and five losses. A highly athletic libero, the sophomore made the most of her physical tools to cover ground on the back row and displayed solid technique when making contact with the ball. Despite covering a large area in serve-receive, Petnkeu was very precise with her passing and kept the team in system.
