MN Freshman Showcase Standouts: A Look at the Pins Who Impressed

There were dynamic pin hitters showcasing their versatility, setters showing off their court vision, middles making their presence known, and defenders making plays all over the court. The energy and competitiveness throughout the day showed just how good the talent is in Minnesota. The future is bright and this freshman class gave us plenty of reasons to be excited about what is ahead. She has the height, athleticism, and reach that immediately grab your attention but it is her overall game that makes her stand out. She has an aggressive swing and has the ability to attack from anywhere on the court including taking swings out of the middle. She moves well, has quick feet, and has a solid pass and defensive game. During warmups, it was hard to tell if she was a middle or a pin, and honestly, she has the athleticism to be successful doing both. She moves well, has a quick and powerful arm swing, and brings a level of explosiveness that makes her a tough matchup for defenses. What I like about her game is that she can do damage from either pin. She is just as comfortable taking a big swing from the right pin as she is from the left, which is not something every hitter can do. She is the type of player every coach wants on the court because she does so many things well. She is a solid passer with a quick, effective swing that keeps defenses guessing, and she can also put pressure on the other team with her serving. Volk brings a steady, reliable presence while still being athletic and dynamic, which is a rare combination for a younger player. She did a great job of seeing the court, finding the seam, and mixed up her shots alot to keep defenders guessing. Siemback has the power to swing through the block, but she also understands how to use the block to her advantage, scoring points by tooling defenders. Henrickson stood out right away not only because she was a lefty, but because of the way she played. She was a strong, aggressive, and fearless right side attacker. She did not back down from big blocks or tough situations and continued to deliver point after point. It wasn't just because she has a big, powerful swing (which is quite impressive), but rather it was because of her ability to adjust to just about any set that comes her way. She does a great job of making plays even when the set isn't perfect, which is a valuable skill for any hitter. Add in her wicked float serve and solid defense, and you have a standout player that brings a lot of tools to the court.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
