We've recently released the updated rankings for the class of 2029—this year's sophomores. In their most important recruiting year, these kids have a ton of growth ahead of them, and we at PrepDig are looking forward to it all. Each day this week, we'll highlight five athletes from five different clubs that are making waves early on in this recruiting year. Here they are, new to us, but not to this game.    An absolute thumper who earned All-American status this past summer, Gia is a hard-hitting, high-flying outside hitter that is the example of D1-looking outsides from Indiana. I've probably ranked her too low, but I'm interested in seeing what she does this fall before I move her into the top ten. No matter what, Miss Stokes is a physical, big and strong outside hitter that deserves a ton of attention moving forward, and should get better quickly both this fall and next spring.     On average, Indiana is known for its ball-control first mentality in volleyball. We're not known for size or physicality or other-worldly athleticism, but we have PLENTY of high-end passers. Kennedy is definitely one to watch as she is the clear example of how the libero should look and act. Quick feet, solid read-and-react instincts and a calm demeanor keep her in the conversation of being a top-50 recruit in this class, and I predict she'll be one of the top defenders by the end of this school year.     More known for her beach presence than in indoor ball, Aubree is a ball-control-first outside that makes very few errors in her play. As part of the Roncalli collective, she'll have more than enough training to be a solid passer, whether she's an outside hitter or a defensive specialist. No matter what position she's going to play at the next level, she has options, and those options make her a highly sought after recruit in this class.     Over decades of talent evaluation, I've always gravitated towards setters, especially since I used to be one. Of the setters in this particular class, Josie is one of those that immediately caught my eye during this update cycle. Tall, long, lean and athletic, Miss Garber understands the mechanics better than a lot of setters in any class, and her techniques look nearly perfected. Her size alone will have many recruiters gravitating to her court, and the skill set will keep them there. Josie's an up-and-coming setter in this class, and I fear that I've ranked her too low initially to reflect how accomplished she is.     Explosive, quick and with raw athleticism, Rhyan has the potential to be one of the steals of this class. I don't classify her as “small”, as she more than makes up for it with her jumping ability. She's also aggressive on her swing, regardless of if the play is in-system or out-of-system—-a trait that's hard to teach a kid so young. I'd like to see a bit more all-around play from her this year, so I'm looking forward to her progress not only this fall but next spring as well.
