Small-Town Stars with Big Influence in Nebraska 2028 Rankings

We're ready to return to our rural roots.   Nebraska's small-town prep athletes have always formed the foundation of the state's junior-level volleyball scene. Many of the most influential athletes in Nebraska's history have come from outside the larger municipalities. Talent comes from anywhere.   And Nebraska's Class of 2028 has helped maintain this high standard of "quality over quantity." We have so many rural gems to cover in our Nebraska 2028 rankings, and several of those athletes climbed the ladder after our latest update. This feature is for them, alongside any other names that catch our eye as we pivot toward high school coverage.   The prep spotlight is about to shine bright on these small-town trendsetters.    We had to start with one of the most recognizable names on Nebraska's rural prep circuit. Hoff's smooth hands and uncanny leadership have helped spark a volleyball renaissance at Aurora High School. The Huskies just enjoyed one of their best seasons in recent memory, notching a 21-12 mark alongside Hoff's 9.4 assists per set. That has translated to club success since we first covered Hoff's entrance at the 15s level. She earned all-GJNC honors in 2025 and made a repeat trip to Nationals this summer, cementing her steady climb in the rising junior crowd.     Pardon us for doubling down on the South Central NE 16 Black lineup. While we're discussing players who have found postseason success, Cisneros's stock has soared since earning the Class C1 title with Milford last fall. She played a critical DS role with the Eagles and logged several more exemplary performances in high-pressure environments. We've seen similar returns from Cisneros with South Central NE 16 Black. It was easy to get caught up in South Central's flurry of offensive firepower during that championship run, but Cisneros provided the ball control needed to spark team success. That value cannot be underestimated.     [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] has drawn some of its top 2028s from outside the Lincoln metro. That narrative persists with Cada, a rangy outside hitter who became a regular sight atop Nebraska stat leaderboards last fall. She piled up 4.6 kills per set for Bishop Neumann and did not wane as a scoring threat in the back row. Cada's spectacular termination has flourished beyond her work with the Cavaliers, too. [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] 16 Elite's climb to Open contention wouldn't have been possible without Cada's penchant for stepping up in major qualifiers.     We have no shortage of high-volume scorers to cover from Guardian Angels Central Catholic. The Bluejays made their much-anticipated tournament return last fall, and Gerths willed her crew to Lincoln through brute force. She rocketed past five kills per set and maintained a 0.300 hitting percentage despite all of this volume. Gerths is the kind of pin hitter who can move around and confound opposing blockers through her first-ball routes. It's a recipe for near-certain sideouts.     Perhaps we're catering to the basketball crowd with this one? Dolliver has dazzled us on the volleyball side, producing astonishing numbers for Malcolm en route to a state semifinal. She eclipsed 500 single-season kills during the Clippers' tenure at the state tournament, and Dolliver developed some brilliant ball control skills to back it up. But, like her older sister, this multi-sport gem has also been racking up numbers on the basketball court. It has led to the Omaha Mavericks channeling a double dose of Dolliver for its future hoops teams.     Frankly, we could have included Taylor on our multi-position feature, too. The Auburn High School junior was the leading offensive producer for last year's Bulldogs, averaging 3.5 kills per set on a team-best 0.213 clip. That was a high bar to set heading into 2026, but Taylor has already made further moves within the 2028 hierarchy. We still saw pin prowess from Taylor as she competed with Premier Nebraska 16 Red, but her contributions in serve-receive were particularly notable this spring. This first-contact stability was a major catalyst to 16 Red's big breakthrough at Show Me, sending Taylor and her emergent crew to USAV Nationals.     Oakland-Craig has a long postseason streak to uphold this fall, but Ray is equipped to handle that pressure. She finished just a couple kills shy of 400 last fall, forging an unstoppable Ray sister duo at O-C's outside hitter position. Now, this rising junior will take the lead for the Knights' offense. Not only are we eager to see Ray's electric arm back on the court, but her vast backcourt contributions will keep her on our radar through the end of 2026 and beyond.     This one came out of nowhere during last fall's postseason stretch. Dundy County Stratton played its best volleyball when it mattered most last year, and Spargo was in the middle of it all—literally. The springy, athletic middle blocker was a force in Pinnacle Bank Arena, hammering four kills per set in a quarterfinal win over Garden County. It was a worthy conclusion to a breakout sophomore season in which Spargo tallied nearly 300 kills while hitting on both sides of the setter. The Tigers from Benkelman are officially on the map.
