The Future is Here – SA Up Next Top Performers Vol 4

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Prep Dig Texas Showcases are back!  We had a big event that was held at the Alamo City All Stars Center on August 15^th.  The Up Next showcase for the middle school classes was amazing! These events always bring together athletes from across the state looking to compete in front of coaches while being evaluated by Prep Dig scouts and court coaches. There were tons of awesome players that we evaluated from their awesome production. Showcases like this continue to provide a valuable platform for athletes to be seen, tested, and recognized for their individual performance and intangibles. [player_tooltip player_id='1017333' first='Alanie' last='Villa'] earned hers on everything. Her block was active and committed, her attack through the middle was decisive, and the communication she brought to the floor kept her side of the net functioning as a unit rather than a collection of players who had just met. The detail that court coaches kept pointing to was her first step off the net, quick and directionally accurate without the hesitation that shows up in younger middles who are still guessing rather than reading. She never wasted a rep throughout the day and the competitive edge she carried from the opening drill to the final point of the scrimmage was visible to everyone on the floor. Let that sit for a moment before reading any further. [player_tooltip player_id='1014936' first='Lauren' last='Lopez'] walked into the Up Next San Antonio Showcase and set the ball with a composure and decision-making quality that most players two or three years older than her are still developing. Her location calls were intentional and varied rather than running the same pattern every time the pass was clean. Getting to difficult balls was never an issue because her footwork kept her ahead of the play throughout both sessions. She kept the offense moving through imperfect passes and reset instantly when something did not go the way she planned. The class of 2032 is a long way from being fully evaluated and she is already one of the more interesting names in it. She is 5'3" and she ran the offense at the Up Next San Antonio Showcase with a confidence and precision that made the height question irrelevant before the first set of the scrimmage was over. Her release was consistent and she delivered the ball with shape and location rather than just getting it to the general area her hitters were standing. The trust she built with players she had just met happened fast because the sets were predictably good and hitters respond to that quickly. She led quietly but clearly throughout the day and the players around her were more settled because of it.
