Our watch list is loaded with rankings-worthy athletes, and we had to make some very difficult decisions while preparing this week's update. Fortunately, there's always room for more.

That brings us to today's discussion. We already have our eyes on several athletes on the cusp of joining the rankings, perhaps even leaping far into the next Top 50. Sophomore stock risers are about to dominate the prep headlines this fall, and we can't wait to see who steps up.

Here are a few good candidates.

Porter hasn't been out of the Prep Dig spotlight for long. She recently appeared at our Prep Dig Stock Up Showcase in La Vista, where we got an up-to-date look at Porter's smooth pin-to-pin distribution. Showcases challenge setters to connect with unfamiliar hitters, and Porter embraced that opportunity. This strong outing was a continuation of Porter's steady-handed leadership with VCNebraska 15 Black, one of the club's many GJNC participants. Porter can now help carry on a long tradition of savvy setters at Lincoln Pius X in a stacked Class B field.

Thayer Central has been in the small-town conversation a lot lately, racking up a string of postseason berths and a runner-up finish. Wiedel can help keep the streak going. Her freshman campaign with the Titans showed us a little of everything. Wiedel locked down the right pin for Thayer Central, but her duties went far beyond the normal allotment for an opposite. Aside from her potential as a frontcourt terminator, Wiedel was one of the Titans' best floor defenders and carried a major role in the passing pattern. Her rise continued into the club season as South Central NE 15 Black secured a GJNC berth. Expect a few more postseason reps ahead.

Every successful team needs its physical hammer, and Cockle gladly filled that niche for Banzai VBC 15 Select. She changed the way opposing teams operated when she rotated into the frontcourt. 15 Select found clever ways of moving Cockle around, allowing her to swing in the middle and on the right in first-ball situations. That flexibility was combined with a snappy arm that could deliver undiggable heat. Look out for this terminator.

Premier Nebraska 15 Black is on our radar to deliver the next group of rankings entrants, especially after the team blitzed through the Great Plains Region Bid Tournament. Hansen was a big contributor to that late-season success, culminating in another productive outing at USAV Nationals. 15 Black asked its pin hitters to do a lot this spring, from carrying a passing role to adapting to various systems and lineups. Hansen thrived under any circumstances and was a high-flying force on the left antenna. Her progress could lead the next influx of impactful underclassmen at Gretna East, a school with plenty of Premier Nebraska stars.

Here's another big name from the Premier Nebraska camp. Wiese has been a name to know before her tenure with Premier Nebraska 15 Silver. She anchored the Bishop Neumann backcourt en route to nearly 400 digs in her debut season. Then, Wiese propelled her stock further with a show-stopping weekend at the Show Me Qualifier. That Kansas City trip yielded a runner-up finish and a wealth of sprawling saves from the 15 Silver libero. Wiese does not need a contrasting jersey to stand out, but she'll wear it well regardless.

Frontcourt physicality has always been a strength of Club Legacy teams, particularly at the middle blocker spot. This is where Lowndes operated for 15 Alpha. She had already made a splash at DC West, accumulating over a kill per set and adapting well to the pace of Omaha-area competition. This primed Lowndes for further growth at Club Legacy, where she could shift between middle and opposite roles for 15 Alpha. An at-the-buzzer GJNC berth in Salt Lake City led to even more quality time for this imposing front-row weapon.

The high school season is about to bring so many rural standouts back into the picture. Ickes is one of those names to know after she lit up the scoreboard for last year's O'Neill St. Mary's team. The Cardinals leaned on their freshman for over 250 kills, and Ickes's 0.256 hitting clip was near the top of Nebraska's freshman charts. Beyond the stats, Ickes showed an uncanny ability to work off the block and make the most of out-of-system swings on the outside. St. Mary's hopes to convert those kills into another state tournament trip.

Fader has already built a prep resume worthy of rankings consideration. She racked up over 200 kills at Conestoga, handling attacking volume that will aid her in the next phase of her high school journey. However, that production wasn't enough for Fader. She reconvened with the River City Jrs 15 Navy crew this spring and delivered the postseason magic that the club has become known for. Fader's quick, efficient arm set the tone on the outside as 15 Navy soared to an AAU title in Orlando. She's ready for the big-time high school environments.

We have our initial Top 50, but we're already looking for more.
