About Alexa

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I thrive in a team environment and I'm steady under pressure. My recent club coaches said I'm a "gamer." I had to look it up... and they are 100% right. I'm a player who consistently shows determination, resilience, and high-level performance, especially during crucial moments of a match. I'm usually the person serving the match-winning serve in a tight game and I get it done.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Off the court, others say I'm quiet, but I think I just have a lot of energetic people in my life, so I'm happy to listen. However, the second I step onto the court, I have competitive energy and focus. I'm cool under pressure and I think that calmness helps my teammates when things get tough.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I'm a dedicated club volleyball player that's played in a lot of positions, most recently a setter for club and high school volleyball. For 6 years, I've been playing at the VCNebraska club in Lincoln, Nebraska. I've been playing on top competitive club teams for the past 4 years. During my Freshman, I was a setter on the Pius X High School Junior Varsity team, a highly competitive program.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

My family is very involved in serving our community. I donate my time at The Gathering Place, serving free, hot, nutritious seven days a week, 5-6 p.m., to anyone who needs a meal. As a setter, I work to keep everyone in sync and turn small moments into team wins. My teammates know they can talk to me about anything. I always respect them and listen.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

We recently sent to USAV Nationals, and the second day was tough. I did my best to make sure my teammates understood how great it was to just be there and to play the game as we know we can. We ended up playing the best we've played yet and won our bracket, too.

What type of college are you looking for?

I'm still learning about different careers through job shadowing. I'm currently not sure what my major will be. I'm looking for a college where I can feel a sense of community and accomplish my goals when I finally decide on my major.
