Texas Preseason Head Turners

Texas high school volleyball has begun! Plenty of tournaments across the state have introduced another season and new potential game changers. Though it's early, with much time to develop teams, it is already clear who has been putting in the extra reps leading into this year. Who's playing, who's making a difference, who's changing the game!? Interest has been peaked, so here's the start to a little overview series on Texas' preseason players.    Senior Ds/L for El Paso Americas High School, Katharine Cervantes, is dominating the back court defensively to start the season. She is disciplined and is committed to making the right read. With all the confidence in her game, Katharine does not miss! Bringing a high IQ, quick footwork, and dime passes, there is no denying, at this rate, she is the defender to beat this season. her discipline and control over her game shines bright and explains her hold of the libero jersey.     Saydi Walker, junior setter for Mansfield high, is bringing all the energy and intention to the court this season. While she is not new talent to Prep Dig, she continues to impress with her game. Showing off her ability to connect with explosive hitters and consistently deliver an even tempo throughout the game. With a high IQ, Saydi demonstrates aggressive defense and decisiveness when the ball is in her hands. Pushing her teammates to run a quick game and leading her hitters effectively at the net, is setting her apart and clearly making a difference on the court.     Annaliese Davis, a big time Middle Blocker for a strong Burleson High team, brings the strength, energy, and grit necessary to make a difference from the middle. She utilizes her versatile swing at the net to disrupt defenses and keep her team ahead. Her ability to lead and encourage her team vocally makes a big difference when the game is on. A big swing paired with big energy is proving to be effective for the junior middle, and is showing no signs of changing as the season progresses.     Tenley Newton, a 6 rotation freshman hitter for Burleson High, came into this season with a point to prove! Age means nothing next to her athleticism and ability to play the game well. As a strong offensive option, Tenley swings intentionally, hitting her angles and delivering consistent kills that are putting her team on top. As the season progresses she is a talking point to consider for opposing teams.     Peyton Smith, A dominating 6 rotation hitter for Duncanville High. She is strong, smart, and confident in her game. Clearly a go to offensive option for her team, with the ability to play effective defense on the opposite side of the ball. Peyton is explosive behind the ball, delivering difficult shots to her opponents and working angles to take out the setters any chance she gets showing her IQ and court awareness.While it is early in the season, and in her high school career, there is no doubt, Peyton Smith is going to be a big threat across the net.
