Salado and Wimberley Set the Pace in Class 4A

The high school volleyball season is nearing its end and there are some teams and players who are making a name for themselves. This season has proven to be another great showing from our wonderful and amazing players. Let's take a look at some of the intriguing storylines from the Lone Star State as we head into the playoffs.

Salado Eagles

Salado sits at No. 1 in Class 4A in the latest TGCA poll, and the Eagles have earned every bit of it. They are 38-5 and riding a 13 match winning streak. Salado has won 19 of its last 20 matches at home and turned its gym into one of the toughest places to play in Central Texas. Coach Clint Brown has built a team that wins with discipline and patience. The Eagles beat a 32 win China Spring team twice in district play. Their home win over the Cougars last Tuesday came in four sets and showed they can handle a strong opponent when the match tightens. Salado swept Connally by double digits in every set last week. The Eagles also played a tough nondistrict schedule against 6A programs like Vandegrift and Cedar Park. That early test prepared this group for exactly the kind of matches it will see in the playoffs. Salado played its regular season finale at La Vega this past friday and then heads into the bracket as the team everyone in 4A is chasing. With players like [player_tooltip player_id='739802' first='Charli' last='Niu'], [player_tooltip player_id='767301' first='Presley' last='Ortega'], [player_tooltip player_id='952515' first='Naomi' last='Niu'], Mazzy Johnson, and [player_tooltip player_id='827410' first='Kaylee' last='Bragg'], just to name a few, I am not sure anyone can stop destiny. All of these players have tons of experience playing at a high level and that will come in to play once they get deep in the playoffs. The smart money is on the Eagles to come out on top.

Wimberley Texans

Wimberley knows the road to Garland better than almost anyone in Class 4A. The Texans won the state title in 2024 and finished as the 4A runner-up last season. They are 40-4 this fall and have won 23 straight road matches dating back to last season. Coach Misty Fletcher has more than 80 wins through her first two seasons and has this group chasing a third straight trip to state. Super sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='784876' first='Trinity' last='Laney'] is the premier attacker on this roster. She led Wimberley with 85 aces as a freshman and now she is doing damage at the net and the service line. Laney had 12 kills and 12 digs in a sweep of Davenport on Tuesday and 14 kills against Bandera earlier this month. On the season, she has amassed 483 kills on an amazing .314 hitting percentage. She is a dangerous weapon to have on your side as she can light up a scoreboard in a hurry. Setter [player_tooltip player_id='519325' first='Bianca' last='Mohr'] runs the offense with steady hands and handed out 31 assists against Davenport. She is no stranger to high level play and is a true hard worker who never gives up or abandons a fight. Senior attackers Ellen Watson and Skylar Mears can get hot at any time at the net and offer tons of firepower to take this team far. Senior Kara Thames anchors the back row and dug 21 balls against Bandera. Drew Thames gives the Texans a strong presence in the middle and has been a reliable blocker all season. This team has playoff experience at every position and that will matter in November.

As always stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes. If you have anyone you think we should watch out for, please shoot me an email with some info at Michael@prepdig.com. You can also DM me in Instagram and X by searching @CoachMikeDZ. Also don't forget to help these kids get more exposure by sharing our stories with your friends. Help us help them by simply reposting on X or sharing on Facebook. Thanks for following us, Prep Dig Texas Family! Don't be afraid to interact with us. We love the likes, shares, and quotes/comments. Keep them coming!
