Powerhouse Private Schools In Texas Vol 1

The high school volleyball season is nearing its end and there are some teams and players who are making a name for themselves. This season has proven to be another great showing from our wonderful and amazing players. Let's take a look at some of the intriguing storylines from the Lone Star State as we head into the final stretch.

Prestonwood Christian

Prestonwood Christian has spent the fall looking like one of the best teams in the country regardless of classification. The Lions are 38-4 and have won 13 straight matches heading into the TAPPS postseason. They are ranked No. 1 among Class 5A and smaller schools in the Dallas area and sit inside the top 15 of the MaxPreps national rankings. Coach Ryan Mitchell has built a dynasty in Plano with three straight TAPPS 6A state titles. SMU pledge [player_tooltip player_id='721043' first='Taylor' last='Johnson'] is the headliner, and she has 425 kills this season. Johnson is one of only four Texans on the MaxPreps National Player of the Year watch list. She won gold with the USA U17 National Team this summer and her lightning fast arm swing is nearly impossible to track. Yale pledge [player_tooltip player_id='765125' first='Elizabeth' last='Kowalchyk'] runs the offense with 813 assists and keeps every hitter involved. Loyola Marymount pledge [player_tooltip player_id='513772' first='Anya' last='Baklenko'] leads a stingy back row with 354 digs. The Lions also beat Cornerstone Christian twice in August, which tells you all you need to know about their ceiling. Anything short of a fourth straight state title would be a surprise. The Livings sisters fire away heat seeking missiles from all over the court and superstar middle [player_tooltip player_id='500890' first='Gracie' last='White'] has really come into her own and is second on the team in kills while also leading in blocks. She is a force that cannot be denied and will be rising up the national ranks soon. This squad is like a murderer's row of volleyball players that usually happens on all-star rosters.

Cornerstone Christian

Cornerstone Christian has turned San Antonio into a national volleyball destination. The Warriors are 34-5 and ranked as a top five team in the country by a few publications. Their resume is loaded with statement wins over Westlake and Assumption, along with nationally ranked Torrey Pines from California. That win over Westlake came in straight sets against a team many consider the best in Central Texas. Cornerstone plays with a big and physical lineup that can attack from every spot on the net. [player_tooltip player_id='808163' first='Breya' last='Dawson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='523942' first='Piper' last='Pease'] give the Warriors size on the right side pin at 6'2" and 6'1". [player_tooltip player_id='482109' first='Sydney' last='Whisenton'] runs a fast offense and has the hands to push the ball to her pins with pace. Libero [player_tooltip player_id='482103' first='Sara' last='Gonzalez'] and [player_tooltip player_id='519336' first='Jocelyn' last='Chambliss'] anchor a defense that rarely lets a ball hit the floor. The lightning fast arm of [player_tooltip player_id='918835' first='Claire' last='Bolton'] has been very hard to stop this season as she leads the team with 390 kills on an astounding .361 hitting percentage. The play of Esther Royal-Priest at the net has a lot of people talking for sure. She ranks third on the team in kills for a reason. She is just that dangerous. This roster has grown up together over the years and it carries a confidence that only comes from building solid teamwork. If you have not seen them play yet, you are truly missing out on greatness.

As always stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes. If you have anyone you think we should watch out for, please shoot me an email with some info at Michael@prepdig.com. You can also DM me in Instagram and X by searching @CoachMikeDZ. Also don't forget to help these kids get more exposure by sharing our stories with your friends. Help us help them by simply reposting on X or sharing on Facebook. Thanks for following us, Prep Dig Texas Family! Don't be afraid to interact with us. We love the likes, shares, and quotes/comments. Keep them coming!
