<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p>Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park meet Wednesday, October 28 at 6:00 pm at Newbury Park in the CIF-SS Division 3 quarterfinal. Neither team needs an introduction. [player_tooltip player_id='537526' first='Saylor' last='Halvorsen'] says it will be the fourth time Thousand Oaks has faced the Panthers this year, and [player_tooltip player_id='760616' first='Lily' last='Morge'] has been breaking down film from those matches.</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p>Seventeen athletes from both rosters shared what this season has taught them and what they are carrying into tonight. The answers keep landing in the same places: communication, chemistry, resilience and the ability to move on from the last play. The details underneath matter. [player_tooltip player_id='1056964' first='Evelyn' last='Rosenberg'] was pulled up from JV for CIF. [player_tooltip player_id='1056726' first='Luciana' last='Liebscher'] says Newbury Park has won with players in different positions. [player_tooltip player_id='731906' first='Olena' last='Harasymowycz'] is speaking directly to this matchup.</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p>When a match is this familiar, the separation usually comes from habits rather than surprises. Who communicates, who resets, who trusts the plan. </p>

<p id="acf-block-6ae24d34a0518">Saylor operates with a clear rule at the pin: finish the point when the chance is there, and make the ball better every time she touches it. That second habit is the one coaches should notice. <p>Lily prepares like a player who is familiar with her opponent. Using film from earlier matches against Newbury Park, she is making block timing as her priority. She also plans to score, not just block. Her court IQ stood out in my 2025 middles evaluation, with sound decisions under pressure. She is with Lava West 17M this club season.</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p>Lily's Voice “I'm preparing for this game by watching film from our previous games against Newbury and focusing on reading them. To block, my priority has been to get my timing right and be a threat at the net. In this match I will find ways to score and take advantage of every opportunity I have to get a kill. This run means a lot to me because it's my senior season, and I'm very proud of how far our team has come. I want to give everything I have to this game and I am making the most of this season with this special team and group of girls.”</p>

<p>Juliet is building a versatile game. She has played outside, is playing opposite for Thousand Oaks and is working toward setting for her club team. She says opposite has added blocking, which she expects to carry over once she sets full-time. She is with [program_tooltip program_id='510736' first='Sports' last='Academy'] VBC U15 Girls Premier this club season. She was featured in my April 2026 Powerhouse Pins piece from the Salt Lake City Showcase.</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p>Juliet's Voice “I've always played outside hitter, but I've been really curious about setting for a while now. I've tried to build an all-around game that can help a team in whatever role is needed, and this high school season at opposite has been a chance to do exactly that while I keep working toward setter for club. Playing opposite has let me add blocking to my game in a real way, which should carry over once I start setting full-time. Heading into Wednesday I'm focused on competing hard, trusting my teammates, and playing with the same energy we've had all season.”</p>

<p><strong>Lucy Oppenheimer</strong></p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p>Lucy defines the back-row job by what it does for others. A good pass lets the setters run the offense, and the offense creates points. She names the basics as her reset button when the match gets loud.</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p>Lucy's Voice “My job in the back row is to put up a good enough pass for our setters so we can run our offense and execute plays for points. I keep my focus by remembering the basics and not getting in my head. I try to not only keep my energy and attitude up but my team to keep our momentum and energy on the court.”</p>

<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p>Sara's Voice “My mindset going into the quarterfinal is to stay in the present and not overly focus on the label, but instead to treat it like any other game. For Wednesday, I want to do the best I can whenever I am given an opportunity to do so.”</p>

<p>Jenna is a setter with a 3.8 GPA and a Millikin University commitment. She names defense and a creative, unpredictable offense as her biggest growth. Getting all of her hitters involved is the setter evaluation, and she says it in her own words. I noted her versatility back in my 2023 Newbury Park JV preview. She is with Reef 18 National Dustin this club season.</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p>Jenna's Voice “The part of my game that has grown the most this season is my defense and my ability to run a creative and unpredictable offense where I can get all of my hitters involved. <p>Ava defines her role through energy. She lifts teammates when the energy is down, and she talks about the team's bond before anything else. In her view, this run means more than one match. <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p>Ava's Voice “I take pride in my role as being someone who can pump up the girls on the court when the energy is down or they aren't feeling 100%. I take pride in this team's bond and being so close with the girls. To me, this playoff run means a future for Newbury Park volleyball. <p>Olena is a libero with GJNC medals from 2023, 2024 and 2025, and she plays club for PCVC 16 Nalu. She plans to command the back row with her voice. Her answer treats communication as a skill and says that stats matter less than getting the team to play as one unit. She was on my April 2025 Libero Watch List at the Salt Lake City Showcase.</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p>Olena's Voice “My goal in the back row for this quarterfinal matchup against Thousand Oaks is to command the back row with not only my playing, but my voice. Being loud and communicative will really help everyone on my team to do their jobs better. It's not always about having the best stats, the most touches, or making crazy plays. It's about letting our team function as one, for one goal. So, I am really communicating for the team to play as one unit. We just need to trust in our abilities and not do anything special. Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park meet Wednesday, October 28 at 6:00 pm at Newbury Park in the CIF-SS Division 3 quarterfinal. Neither team needs an introduction. Saylor HalvorsenSaylorHalvorsen
6'2" | OH/MB
Thousand Oaks | 2028 StateCA
says it will be the fourth time Thousand Oaks has faced the Panthers this year, and Lily MorgeLilyMorge
6'0" | MB/OH
Thousand Oaks | 2027 CA
has been breaking down film from those matches.
Saylor operates with a clear rule at the pin: finish the point when the chance is there, and make the ball better every time she touches it. That second habit is the one coaches should notice. She is with [program_tooltip…
Lily prepares like a player who is familiar with her opponent. Using film from earlier matches against Newbury Park, she is making block timing as her priority. She also plans to score, not just block. Her court IQ stood out in my 2025 middles evaluation, with sound decisions under pressure. She is with Lava West 17M this club season.
Lily's Voice “I'm preparing for this game by watching film from our previous games against Newbury and focusing on reading them. To block, my priority has been to get my timing right and be a threat at the net. In this match I will find ways to score and take advantage of every opportunity I have to get a kill. This run means a lot to me because it's my senior season, and I'm very proud of how far our team has come. I want to give everything I have to this game and I am making the most of this season with this special team and group of girls.”

Eve started the season on JV and was pulled up to varsity for CIF. She describes the move as competitive and exciting, and she says the biggest shift has been playing aggressively instead of scared. The line about earning her…
Taylor brings energy and encouragement, and she ties Thousand Oaks' run to the support of coaches and teammates. Her focus stays on team chemistry rather than individual moments. She is with 17's ZumaBay Volleyball this club season. Taylor's Voice “I…
Juliet is building a versatile game. She has played outside, is playing opposite for Thousand Oaks and is working toward setting for her club team. She says opposite has added blocking, which she expects to carry over once she sets…
Lucy defines the back-row job by what it does for others. A good pass lets the setters run the offense, and the offense creates points. She names the basics as her reset button when the match gets loud.
Lucy's Voice “My job in the back row is to put up a good enough pass for our setters so we can run our offense and execute plays for points. I keep my focus by remembering the basics and not getting in my head. I try to not only keep my energy and attitude up but my team to keep our momentum and energy on the court.”
Sara is a left-handed opposite with a 4.81 GPA and a Pomona College commitment. She treats the quarterfinal the way she wants her game to look: present, steady and unbothered by the label. She plays with patience about her opportunities. She earned MVP honors at the SoCal PrepDig Stock Up Showcase in June 2025 and is with City 18 Gold this club season.
Sara's Voice “My mindset going into the quarterfinal is to stay in the present and not overly focus on the label, but instead to treat it like any other game. For Wednesday, I want to do the best I can whenever I am given an opportunity to do so.”

Jenna is a setter with a 3.8 GPA and a Millikin University commitment. She names defense and a creative, unpredictable offense as her biggest growth. Getting all of her hitters involved is the setter evaluation, and she says it in…
Ava defines her role through energy. She lifts teammates when the energy is down, and she talks about the team's bond before anything else. In her view, this run means more than one match. She sees it as a possible…
Olena is a libero with GJNC medals from 2023, 2024 and 2025, and she plays club for PCVC 16 Nalu. She plans to command the back row with her voice. Her answer treats communication as a skill and says that stats matter less than getting the team to play as one unit. She was on my April 2025 Libero Watch List at the Salt Lake City Showcase.
Olena's Voice “My goal in the back row for this quarterfinal matchup against Thousand Oaks is to command the back row with not only my playing, but my voice. Just play our game when it gets loud.”

Scarlett keeps her goals simple: stay positive, support teammates and improve every time she steps on the court. She says one of her favorite parts of the season is playing alongside her sister and her best friends. Scarlett's Voice “My…
Emma's approach is short and repeatable: work hard, let the mistake go and focus on the next play. She says her preparation is more of the same, with hard work at practice and her best effort. Emma's Voice “My goal…
Luciana points to chemistry and flexibility. She says Newbury Park has won games with different lineups and with players at different positions than normal. That adaptability is a trait coaches look for. Luciana's Voice “This season has taught me resilience…
Emmery is a sophomore on varsity who can play outside or middle. She lists full effort, confidence and integrity as lessons from the season. She is looking forward to a high level of volleyball on Wednesday. She is with PCVC…
Laney is a blocker who has committed to Pepperdine. She describes the season through friendships and competition, and she is looking forward to a loud gym and her church youth group community in the stands.
Laney's Voice “This season has been about having fun with my friends. We all know each other and the matches have been really competitive. I'm excited for a fun and loud environment with my friends and our church youth group community.”

Molly Hees
Molly connects practice to results. She sees the effort in practice carrying into matches, and she treats cheering as part of how she plays.
Molly's Voice “This season has taught me that teamwork and determination are what win games. The effort we put in during practice translates to our games, and when everyone does their part, we're able to come together and win as a team. For the quarterfinal match, I'm excited to play and cheer with my teammates, and play our best after all of the hard work we have put in throughout the season.”
