Today's edition leans heavily on the younger classes, with a ton of “Indiana-style” players being featured—-mid to undersized, multipositional talents that can do anything and everything on the volleyball court. Here are five athletes from around the state from three different graduating classes that fill all of those requirements to be a true Indiana-based volleyball player.

With youth and energy, Sophia is fully entrenched in high-end, open-level volleyball, and has demonstrated as such throughout this past spring. As a passer, Sophia can receive serve with ease, defend her position well and reads-and-reacts with some of the best outsides in her class. On the attack, her variety of shots and pure athleticism gets her out of any situation where the set isn't exactly perfect. A breath of fresh air for the ladies at Greencastle, Sophia will be one of the top attackers to keep her high school squad in the 30-win area for years to come.

Another class of ‘29 outside, this time from the Muncie area. Nola is the quintessential Munciana kid—-high volleyball IQ, exceptional ball control, and court vision that is unmatched in this class. The constant and consistent vocal direction to her teammates is immediately apparent, and would lead me to think that she could play at the next level as either a six-rotation outside OR a libero/three-rotation defender. Having that positional flexibility is key for her size, and makes her that much more marketable for recruiters throughout the Midwest.

In the Evansville area, size isn't all that common among women's volleyball players. One thing that the ladies DO have in droves is the ability to outwork and outmuscle bigger and stronger players from any position and at any time. Insert Miss Little, who plays her middle position with a confidence and strength not normally seen in her size, yet looks second-nature to her when she's within the 900 square feet. High and hard, with strong legs to defend from pin to pin, Avery's ability to play middle at this size is impressive. I project her to be more of a pin attacker at the next level because of that size, but why take away what makes her so good?

The Marx clan is synonymous with high-end, athletic volleyball play. Kelsey continues that bloodline with, as you can see from the profile pic, high hands when setting. What you DON'T see is her ability to switch gears every three rotations during the fall—-setting from the back and attacking from the front—-and becomes the energetic, hybrid volleyballer that family members before her perfected. I like her ability to play all parts of this game at a VERY high level; Kelsey will be a steal for any program who needs a kid able to play multiple positions without skipping a beat.

Kelsey's counterpart is a class of ‘29 athlete who does the same—-a hybrid kid that sets from the back row and attacks from the front. I'm starting to think that all the athletic women at Tecumseh are capable of just about anything in any sport EVER, as their multidisciplinary acuity in all sports is of the highest quality. In Adley's case, her volleyball IQ is quite high, and is one to keep an eye on in recruiting—-in multiple areas.
