These athletes may just be starting their high school careers, but plenty of them already looked comfortable competing at a high level. Throughout the day, there were powerful attackers, savvy setters, relentless defenders, and versatile players who found ways to make an impact all over the court. While every player brought something to the floor, a handful separated themselves with performances that really caught my attention. She can unload with a big swing when the opportunity is there, but what really stood out was her ability to mix things up. She knows when to take a little off the ball, when to throw in a roll shot, or when to tool the block to generate points. For such a young player, Klein is also impressive in out of system. The Freshman Showcase once again proved that she is nowhere near it. Her game continues to grow and each time she steps on the court, she seems to add another layer of depth to what she can do.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Her passing game has improved, her defense continues to get better, and her attacking game keeps becoming more dynamic. At the Freshman Showcase, Stortz showcased just how versatile she can be. She showed success attacking out of the middle while also showing how dangerous she can be from the pin. She doesn't play like an incoming freshman. She has the ability to do it all while running the offense whether it is pushing it to the pins, reversing the ball against the flow, getting all of her attackers involved, or throwing in some well timed setter dumps. For a setter this young, her volleyball IQ and court awareness are impressive. She is quick, controlled, and methodical with her movements. She doesn't waste or make false steps, reads the court well, and seems to always know where she needs to be. Delos Santos was also solid in both middle back and left back, showing that she can adjust and be effective wherever she is needed. For a young libero, her court awareness and instincts are impressive. She has a smooth release, sees the court well, and always seems to know where the ball needs to go. Whether she is reading the defense and feeding the isolated attacker or reversing the offense to catch the defense off guard, she does a great job keeping everyone involved. She transitions quickly, has a solid reach to get her hands on most sets, and does a nice job creating attacking opportunities for herself. Combine her vertical with her quick feet and strong swing and you have a lefty that will turn heads for years to come.
