The first few weeks of a high-school season can be chaotic.

Lineups are still developing. New setters are finding connections. Younger players are adjusting to varsity speed, and coaches are figuring out which athletes they can trust when a match becomes uncomfortable.

That makes the players who establish themselves early especially interesting.

MaxPreps' Georgia leaderboards are still an evolving snapshot, and teams have played very different numbers of sets, but several athletes are already separating themselves through efficiency, volume and the responsibilities they are carrying for their teams.

These six are setting an early standard in very different ways.

Ella has created one of the strongest early serving stories in Georgia. MaxPreps currently lists the sophomore with 42 aces, the top reported total in the state, while she is also among the Class 5A kill leaders with 58 kills through 19 sets.

That combination makes her much more interesting than a serving specialist. An outside hitter who can create pressure from the end line can change an entire rotation before the rally even develops, forcing opponents out of system and making the transition game easier for everyone behind her. Add attacking production to that pressure and Ella begins to look like the type of young six-rotation player who can influence several consecutive points without needing every ball set to her. For a sophomore, that range of responsibility is an encouraging foundation. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga

Kourtney currently owns 132 digs, the highest total listed on MaxPreps' statewide Georgia leaderboard. She recently contributed nine more digs in Mary Persons' sweep of Warner Robins, helping the Bulldogs move to 9-4 early in the season.

A dig total like that is really a reflection of responsibility. Liberos are asked to solve problems before they become emergencies—reading attackers, communicating seams and creating a controlled contact that allows the setter to run offense instead of simply keeping the ball off the floor. Kourtney already handled substantial serve-receive volume as an underclassman, and that experience is beginning to show in the amount of court Mary Persons can trust her to manage. The best defensive players make chaos look ordinary, and that type of stability becomes increasingly important as region matches tighten. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga

Few freshmen have announced themselves at the varsity net as quickly as Reese. The Milton middle already has 36 total blocks, the highest reported total on MaxPreps' statewide Georgia leaderboard. Milton's team page also lists her at a .382 hitting percentage, meaning her early impact has not been limited to defense.

What makes Reese especially intriguing is how much middle-blocker development is still ahead of her. Blocking at the varsity level requires processing the setter, tracking attacking options and moving laterally against athletes who are faster and more physical than most freshmen have previously faced. The numbers suggest Reese is already affecting where opponents can comfortably attack. As her transition speed and offensive connection continue developing, the same player who currently changes rallies with her blocking could become increasingly difficult to contain on the other side of the net. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga

Zoe currently leads Georgia's Class 7A assist leaderboard with 173 assists and has added 26 aces, putting her among the classification's early leaders from the service line as well.

Those numbers point to a setter influencing both the beginning and development of rallies. Serving aggressively can create predictable first contacts, and a setter who understands how to capitalize on those defensive opportunities becomes even more valuable. Zoe's biggest strength this season may be her ability to create rhythm. Setters have to read much more than the pass—they manage hitter confidence, recognize blocking matchups and decide when an offense needs speed versus stability. Her early production suggests Westlake is placing significant responsibility in her hands, and the way she manages that responsibility could shape the ceiling of the entire offense. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga

Alyce's early numbers are about efficiency as much as volume. Through 17 reported sets in Region 7-3A, she has produced 93 kills at 5.5 kills per set, while MaxPreps currently lists her among Georgia's statewide leaders in hitting percentage.

Efficiency at that level usually begins before the ball ever reaches the hitter. Approach discipline, early recognition of the block and the ability to choose the correct shot are what allow a pin to score without turning every attack into an all-or-nothing swing. Alyce has already shown over previous seasons that she can contribute in serve receive, defense, serving and blocking in addition to carrying a major attacking load. The next step is sustaining that complete impact once opponents begin designing entire game plans around taking away her first option. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga

Marley has wasted little time establishing herself as one of Georgia's early offensive leaders. MaxPreps currently lists her with 141 kills, and a recent three-set victory over Landmark Christian included 19 kills, nine digs and three aces. Eagle's Landing Christian Academy has opened the season unbeaten, giving Marley's production even more significance within a lineup already finding early success.

At 5-foot-11, Marley brings the physical profile of an established outside, but the more interesting part of her game is the responsibility attached to those swings. When a pin becomes a primary scoring option, opponents stop being surprised. Blocks begin leaning toward her, defenders start sitting in favorite zones and serving plans attempt to disrupt her before she ever reaches transition. Continuing to produce under that attention requires confidence, attacking range and the willingness to keep asking for the ball after an error. Marley is building the type of senior season where her value may come not only from scoring, but from becoming the player her team trusts when everyone in the gym knows where the set is headed. ~ S.Fitzgerald @BenchtoBeast_prepdigga

Marley, Alyce, Zoe, Reese, Kourtney and Ella are leading different categories, but the numbers point toward a common theme.

Their teams are already trusting them with meaningful responsibility.

That is what makes early-season statistics most valuable. They do not tell us who will finish the year at the top of a leaderboard, but they begin revealing which athletes are being asked to solve the biggest problems.

As schedules grow tougher and opponents gather more film, maintaining that influence becomes the next challenge.

For now, these six have established the pace.

Subscribe to Prep Dig+ for continued GHSA coverage, updated rankings, player evaluations and recruiting insight as we track which early-season performers turn fast starts into complete fall campaigns.

Note to GA Athletes:

If you'd like to be considered for future coverage, please send me your high school season schedule and share a little bit about yourself so I can come support you and share your story.
