The journey to crowing state champions during early November in Coralville begins in earnest.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>While teams will decide it on the court, predicting who they will be is a fun exercise, for me, and, hopefully, you. We love rankings!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I'll be ranking teams in the state's largest class, 4A, each Monday throughout the season. Here's how I see it heading into the new campaign:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>1. Sioux Center </strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Warriors finished as the state runners-up last season for the second time in four years. They'll welcome back plenty of talent from that squad, including all-state tournament team members [player_tooltip player_id='816843' first='Maryn' last='Franken'] and [player_tooltip player_id='841522' first='Adison' last='Brantsen']. Veterans [player_tooltip player_id='902722' first='Taylor' last='Holverson'], Jorgia VanDeBerg and Kate VandeHoef also return.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2. Bishop Heelan</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In 2025, Heelan replaced a lot of production lost to graduation following its state championship run in 2024. The Crusaders experienced growing pains and fell to Sioux Center, 3-1, in the regional finals. While they'll need to find answers in the back row, proven producers like [player_tooltip player_id='493980' first='Melina' last='Snoozy'], [player_tooltip player_id='493653' first='Dara' last='Mollet'], [player_tooltip player_id='1020654' first='Claire' last='Nelson'], [player_tooltip player_id='831963' first='Emma' last='Moody'], Charlotte Patee and [player_tooltip player_id='897309' first='Reagan' last='Hensley'] return. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>3. Norwalk</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Norwalk advanced to the state tournament last season and welcomes back many of the reasons it was able to accomplish to do so. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='560368' first='Elle' last='Hatlevig'], a Michigan State commitment, is among the top players in the state. [player_tooltip player_id='730403' first='Delaynee' last='Steele'], [player_tooltip player_id='493974' first='Hadley' last='Michael'], [player_tooltip player_id='809159' first='Reese' last='Heim'] and [player_tooltip player_id='758781' first='Myla' last='Brown'] are looking to build on their success from a year ago. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>4. Marion</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Wolves clawed their way to the 2025 state tournament. They have an excellent chance at a return trip considering what they return in the likes of [player_tooltip player_id='759977' first='Abbey' last='Kirk'], [player_tooltip player_id='758819' first='Nayomi' last='Vasser'], Hayden Dietz and [player_tooltip player_id='902763' first='Paige' last='Johnson']. Clear Creek Amana</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Clippers will be replacing a pair of the program's all-time greats in Emily Henderson and Averie Lower from last year's state tournament team. The transition is made easier by the return of [player_tooltip player_id='493660' first='Bailey' last='Simpson'], [player_tooltip player_id='516002' first='Julia' last='Schlarbaum'] and [player_tooltip player_id='902716' first='Kendall' last='Ronnfeldt'].
