Before the Rankings Drop: 2030 Names to Watch

We have had the opportunity to watch many of these young athletes throughout the club season, at showcases, and in gyms across the state, and several have already made a strong case to find their names among the first 2030 rankings.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>But the evaluation certainly isn't finished.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The high school season gets underway this week and that gives us another opportunity to see this talented freshman class in a completely different environment. Some will step immediately into major varsity roles, while others will be fighting for court time and finding their place within established programs. Now, as an incoming freshman, she has already been named a captain of her high school team. That is a sign of the leadership and presence she brings to the court. Whether she is lighting it up from the pin or digging balls in the back row, Clarke finds ways to contribute. She moves quickly along the net and has a strong swing that allows her to put the ball away. She did a nice job running both the 1 and the gap, and when her team was in system, she was often a go to option. Eigner is still young, with several years of development ahead of her, which makes her an exciting player to follow. Despite being just a freshman, she is no stranger to the varsity court and will once again be tasked with running the offense for STMA. Holtorf plays with an advanced skill set well beyond her age, reversing the ball with ease, finding her hitters when pushed off the net, and getting her feet to the ball to deliver clean out of system sets to her pins. Her versatility as an attacker is a major strength, both in where she can attack from and the variety of shots she brings to the court. She can score from anywhere across the front row, unloading with a big swing when the opportunity is there or mixing things up with a well placed tip, roll, or push to the corners. She definitely keeps defenses guessing. She is quick on her feet, makes smart set selections, and shows a strong understanding of how to run an offense. Strunk is also a scoring threat herself, recognizing opportunities to catch defenses off guard with well timed dumps. She is fluid in her movements, reads the game well, and plays with the confidence of someone accustomed to high level competition. Delos Santos has a strong, steady platform, runs through balls well, and is reliable in out of system setting. Her experience competing at a high level in club volleyball, along with playing varsity at a young age, shows in the way she handles herself on the court.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
