How about an early-season check-in with this summer's stars?

Forgive me for dwelling on my most recent trek from Nebraska to the KC area. My July trip to the Missouri/Kansas Stock Up Showcase was a thrilling reprise of my multi-year run covering Kansas City showcases. I always cherish my chances to cross into the Sunflower State, and I hope to do so again soon for prep coverage.

In the meantime, we have a lot of box scores and highlight film to digest from Kansas' first wave of high school contests. And, fittingly, several familiar names have jumped out on the stat leaderboards.

This summer's event showed us dozens of athletes building positive momentum toward a prep breakthrough. Now, they have the results to back it up.

Neblett wasn't the only Oswego star at our summer showcase, so the Indians have given us plenty of talking points heading into the fall. This junior terminator has been a prominent figure with her high school squad for a while, racking up nearly 450 total kills in her underclassman tenure. Neblett's 2026 opener featured some of her best work, as she put down 14 kills in a three-set slugfest with Liberal. We're often reminded of Neblett's exceptional physicality and ability to terminate on either side of the setter. That versatility will carry Oswego through an ultra-competitive 2A gauntlet, and we can't wait to see those next steps.

Like many of the 2029s we'll see on this feature, Holcomb didn't wait until Year 2 to make a prep impression. She compiled a triple-digit dig total as a freshman and laid the foundation for more highlight moments in the Shockwave gym. Holcomb remains a foundational part of Andover Central's leadership group, a significant honor for a second-year athlete. This defensive specialist backs up that role with some spry backcourt plays and an unparalleled ability to read tip shots. The Jaguars are already racking up wins in this year's fall campaign and will be a factor in the 5A race.

Campbell has made multiple stops on the Prep Dig Circuit, capturing our attention through her game-changing range and contact point. This lefty opposite compiled an impressive club tape with MAVS 816, showing exceptional power when teeing off down the line. It's the kind of skill set that transfers well to the ultra-physical nature of Class 6A competition. Campbell found her groove while hitting around 0.300 in opening-week showdowns with Olathe South and Olathe North. The Kansas City area has a lot of names to know this fall, and Campbell will be part of that group.

Kansas prep enthusiasts are already accustomed to seeing Hiltgen's name near the top of the state's stat leaderboard. She amassed over 300 kills in her debut season with Linn, lifting the Bulldogs to a 1A D2 tournament appearance. Hiltgen may be on track to repeat that effort in Year 2. She most recently put up 4.3 kills per set in a doubleheader with Onaga and Clifton-Clyde, extending Linn's unblemished start to the 2026 journey. It's hard not to notice Hiltgen's snappy, springy approach on Linn's highlight film, and we got a dose of that explosiveness at our showcase, too.

Like Hiltgen, Bradshaw has established herself as the go-to terminator for her high school squad. She led Newton with 2.4 kills per set through the first six matches, boasting a 0.429 hitting clip in the opening-day bout with Eisenhower. Our summer showcase summoned a lot more than just a rocket arm from this Shockwave standout. Bradshaw was also eager to step into the serve-receive pattern and provide game-changing ball control during six-on-six scrimmages. We're ready to see Newton build around this all-encompassing strength while navigating the Class 5A slate.

Shockwave is getting plenty of representation in this one. Cary added to the club's tremendous depth this spring and is back to business with Trinity Academy on the prep side. This is a strong pass-to-attack weapon who has flipped between both pins in the front row. April's Show Me Qualifier revealed Cary's potential as a hard-hitting opposite who could put up a wall as a blocker. She has even progressed as a floor defender, demonstrating that growth during drill work at July's showcase. Her upward trajectory persists.
