Connections are strong.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>That thought was the impetus behind developing these scouting-report/photo pieces a few seasons ago to act as yearbook pages. I've written as many of them as I could based on watching teams play in person. Hopefully, they capture that squad in words and pictures, and can be accessed years down the road.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Today, we look at Dubuque Senior, who I watched play host to Iowa City High earlier this week. I happened by the court not seeking out her Dubuque Insanity team and left it realizing I'd seen one of the top 2030 volleyball prospects in Iowa. I watched her again at the USAV Nationals this summer in Indianapolis, and she'd taken another step forward. That happened again when watching her earlier this week with Dubuque Senior playing host to Iowa City High for senior night. Pfab already had earned her reputation and place on top of opponent scouting reports. The Little Hawks worked hard on the block, but the freshman still led her team in kills. The sky is the limit for the lefty with height, long arms, athleticism and a big vertical leap. While I was, once again, impressed with her sibling, Melanie flashed a lot of volleyball potential as well. She ranked second to Mallory in kills and led the team in blocks. Not bad for a kid that didn't play volleyball last year. She has favored basketball and tennis during her athletic journey. Adding volleyball to her plate was good for the Rams and good for her. She utilizes the athleticism, fluidity and agility needed for success in her other sports to shine in volleyball. She jumps well and is strong. The freshman is firmly on my radar now after watching her rank tied for second on the team in kills. Not the tallest kid on the court, Hirsch is an explosive athlete with a big vertical leap and more power in her swing than her frame might indicate. She showed a keen feel for the flow of the match and had a good idea what she wanted to do with the ball when given an opportunity. Hirsch is a player with a lot of promise. Schulte was working in combination with a senior, taking advantage of her time on the court and flashing promise for the future. The sophomore is a good athlete that moves fluidly around the floor and gets to her spots. She can put the ball on the money and is building a connection with a young group of attackers capable of terminating points when the bond is in place. Her athleticism and lateral quickness help her defend and pick up the ball in serve-receive.
