On Thursday, October 1, we caught some District 23 action, with the Fulshear Chargers hosting the Waller Bulldogs in the match that opened the second round of district play. Waller started behind, but fought back and walked away with a huge 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-23).

Selig had somewhat of a slow start to the game, but from the second set on was absolutely pivotal in Waller's victory. The sophomore outside hitter was very consistent and reliable offensively, scoring at a very high rate from both the left and the right. Selig fired some powerful swings, but more often than not relied on her excellent court vision and superior technique to score points, finding gaps on the block, nice angles to swing and great locations to tip at. She also did well in serve-receive, efficiently handling the serves that went her way.

Keys' steadiness and veteran leadership were instrumental in Waller's comeback. The senior setter orchestrated their offense extremely well and stepped up to make big plays in key moments of the match. Keys used her hitters very intelligently and did very well when taking hitting duties herself, putting the ball down in moments of pressure. She also served well throughout the match and offered a good blocking presence on the right for the Bulldogs.

Bailey was another player who managed to raise her level of play as the match progressed, improving by leaps and bounds from an inconsistent first-set performance. The senior libero was huge for the Bulldogs on defense, performing impressive digs on the back row and generating opportunities for them to score in transition. Bailey's confidence grew once she stabilized her passing, and her accurate deliveries made her team's offense much smoother. She also did a good job from the service line, getting a few aces and getting Fulshear out of system.

Like her older sister, Keys was also a stud on the right for Waller, performing her dual role of setter-right-side hitter at a high level. The sophomore's distribution was extremely well-balanced and helped the Bulldogs get the best out of their hitters. Keys made excellent choices offensively, scoring off tips and limiting her errors from both pins. The setter was one of the team's emotional leaders and brought great energy to the court in decisive moments of the match.

Frank's offensive game had some ups and downs throughout the match, but her ability to put the ball down in out-of-system play proved invaluable for the Bulldogs. The team's most explosive hitter, she was frequently set at the pin and the middle back positions and showed interesting hitting skills, combining serious firepower and the ability to find sharp angles. Frank demonstrated great court vision, too, using tips to catch opponents off guard and put the ball away, especially at the end of longer rallies.

With Fulshear operating in system most of the time, Watson was constantly set in the middle, and she didn't disappoint, establishing herself as the team's most reliable scorer. Except for a moment at the start of the third set in which she made consecutive errors, her offense was very consistent and allowed her to score with ease. Watson's footwork and athleticism found no answer across the net, and she was particularly difficult to stop when hitting the slide set. The senior middle's blocking was also a factor and appeared in important moments of the match.

Fajardo was another of Fulshear's standouts, getting the job done in a very efficient way. The junior libero covered a lot of ground in serve-receive and allowed the Chargers' offense to operate in system for most of the time. Fajardo also appeared well on defense, showing great positioning and excellent reflexes to keep the ball off the floor. She also did well every time she had to step up and set in transition, getting the ball in good locations to her hitters.
