The CIF-SS playoff brackets get released in less than three weeks, as certain teams are fine-tuning their team to prepare for the postseason. With the playoffs vastly approaching, the last few regular season tournaments are being played to help teams develop playing in a playoff-like match.

For the 17 teams in the Redondo Power Classic, being hosted by Redondo Union and South Torrance High School, it was a grueling two-day tournament, having to deal with the heat while playing in the gymnasium. At the end of the tournament, Oaks Christian was the last one standing, but they needed to fight tooth and nail in order to win the whole thing.

After going 2-0 in a three-team pool, the Lions upended Los Alamitos and Long Beach Poly in the quarterfinals and semifinals in three respectfully to advance to the finals. Oaks Christian then took down Bishop Montgomery in straight sets to claim the crown, though both teams had amazing tournaments as they pulled off upsets in the previous two rounds against teams ranked ahead of them in the most recent CIF-SS girls volleyball power rankings.

Down below are players from teams that made the semifinals that stood out.

Oaks Christian players Trityn Bailey (left), Elyse Wong (middle) and Malie Ogbechie (right). In the final, Wong stepped up offensively taking smart swings at the ball and placing it perfectly where the defense couldn't get to it. Wong had six kills in set two of the final, as she stepped up whenever her teammates were struggling.

Bailey was versatile for Oaks Christian throughout the entire tournament, as she did a little of everything. One thing I liked about Bailey was that she had great senior leadership. Despite not recording a kill in the second set of the final, she made up for it by scoring in other departments. Her serving was what really caught my eye, and her blocking definitely caught everyone's attention.

*Bailey is currently enrolled at Oaks Christian High School, not Bishop Alemany. *

Ogbechie's swings were as powerful and lethal throughout the tournament, as no matter who she faced at the net, she kept the blockers guessing. One other thing I liked about Ogbechie's gameplay was that she passed well. Whether it was out of system or in system, Ogbechie passed it perfectly to her teammates and the rest did itself. Ogbechie continues to be a force at the net.

Bishop Montgomery finished second in the Redondo Power Classic with standout wins against Santa Margarita and Redondo Union. There was even a play where there was a heads up play where she made a diving dig in the air to keep the ball from landing on her team's side, which led to the Knights getting the point. Choe is only a sophomore, but plays like a veteran that's fit to be a floor general.

Aleeya Salima and Cedra Talaga earned all=tournament honor at the Redondo Power Classic for Long Beach Poly. Her kill attempts were without a doubt amazing, as she either went through the block or off the block perfectly, but her passing and digging the ball was a sight to see. Her improving on that is what's going to make the Jackrabbits a tough out in the upcoming CIF-SS playoffs.

Talaga's leadership and floor defense were on full display for Long Beach Poly throughout the tournament. She also passed perfectly for the most part to help set up her hitters for success. Talaga also showed great poise no matter who her team faced in the tournament, as she wasn't afraid to make hustle plays for her team to keep the rally going.

Abbie Hairrell made the all-tournament team for Redondo Union at the Redondo Power Classic. In addition, Hairrell's presence at the net defensively helped, as even if she doesn't get the block, she forces opposing hitters to hit the ball cautiously otherwise she'll get the block. Hairell will be important for the Seahawks in their pursuit of winning another CIF-SS championship.

Other players that caught the eyes of spectators at the Redondo Power Classic: Ellie Hallinan (Oaks Chrisitan), Milena Kirchner (Oaks Chrisitan), Callie Tafua (Bishop Montgomery), Malia Suzuki (Bishop Montgomery), Avery Milburn (Long Beach Poly), Lailah Clayborne (Long Beach Poly), Linnaea Nielsen (Redondo Union), Ciena Castillo (Redondo Union).

If You Enjoyed This Article, Help Us Keep the Momentum Going

🔥 set_pointiesr

Take time to explore my IG Page or my show on @iesportsradio that talks all things volleyball from colligate, to the pros, to even high school.
