More of a right side than an outside, Ava’s terminal swing is definitely serviceable at the open level of 18s this season. Long, lean and explosive, her training at Munciana has refined her blocking technique, and is a multiple-point-per-set automatic scorer for any roster she plays for. I also like the relentlessness of her play—rarely does she take plays off or safely places the ball. She goes for it which, at this stage of her recruitment, is exactly what schools should be looking for.

With a high-and-hard approach to attacking on the right side, Ava is more than capable of playing at the next level, and has no shortage of size to do so. Her length on the block is accompanied by her shoulder breadth in taking up space and setting a solid block for her middles. As far as her attack is concerned, she’s the prototypical right side—a full-go swing that attacks with pace at all times. Terminal to the last, Ava would be a nice three-rotation addition for a college needing just that on the right pin.

A recent transfer from HSE, Miss Gutt is a hybrid athlete that can play any attacking position in the front row, but really showed out this past fall on the right side. Springy, quick and strong, Ava is a terminator through and through, and can give opposing hitters problems with her length on the block. She’s found a home at Munciana this spring, playing for the Quora (18-2) and an open-level schedule, which is well within her capabilities as a player.
