Texas High School Spotlight – Highland Park Scots

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Now that the high school season is well underway, we are starting our series of articles on those teams who have been lighting up the stat sheets and scoreboards.&nbsp; We will be highlighting a few teams that have a chance to do something very special this year if it all works out.&nbsp; Today we bring our attention to Highland Park High School out of District 7-6A.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Eagles are coming off of a season in which ended a bit earlier than they wanted it to.&nbsp; They went 39-7 overall last year and finished in 1^st place in their district by going 14-0. &nbsp;These ladies were beaten in the 4^th round of the playoffs last season and are hungry to go further this season.&nbsp; They are returning some amazing seniors from last year's team and have some really great underclassmen who are playing well beyond their years.&nbsp; That experience and amazing play should be something that propels them to the forefront of the 6A race this season.&nbsp; So far they are on fire and have a 25-2 overall record. &nbsp;We have written about some of these players before and here is a little from our recent articles about them if you need to remember who they are:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='197072' first='Harper' last='Hall'] [2024] 5-8 Setter (HS: Highland Park/Club: [program_tooltip program_id='431308' first='Texas' last='Advantage']/Verbal: Uncommitted)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"align":"right","id":224438,"width":129,"height":192,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pd/uploads/2022/09/Harper-Hall-scaled-e1662652250345-689x1024.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-224438" width="129" height="192"/></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Harper is currently listed as the 73^rd best overall prospect and 12^th best setter in the 2024 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings.&nbsp; She plays high school volleyball at Highland Park and also club for [program_tooltip program_id='431308' first='Texas' last='Advantage'].&nbsp; I have written about her a few times this year and we added her to the rankings in the last update.&nbsp; I watched her very closely in quite a few tourneys when she played with Skyline's top team and she was super impressive.&nbsp; Watching her a few weeks ago in the volleypalooza tourney showed me that her ranking is no fluke.&nbsp; She has stepped up into a solid role to lead this team to greatness this year.&nbsp; Her leadership and killer attitude on the court will take this team very far.&nbsp; She has been very sharp delivering the ball to some amazing hitters and that is not going to stop happening.&nbsp; You will be hearing her name a lot moving forward.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='141131' first='Cecily' last='Gooch']&nbsp;&nbsp;[2023] 6-2 Middle/Right Side (HS: Highland Park/Club: Drive Nation/Verbal: Michigan) &nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"align":"left","id":224439,"width":155,"height":218,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pd/uploads/2022/09/Ceci-Gooch-scaled-e1662652337339-729x1024.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-224439" width="155" height="218"/></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Miss Gooch is currently listed as the 17^th&nbsp;best overall player in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings.&nbsp; Miss Gooch stars at Highland Park HS and for the amazing Drive Nation program.&nbsp; We have written about her a few times for the past couple of years and every adjective used was telling the truth.&nbsp; She is a juggernaut on the court who can do so many wonderful things for her squad.&nbsp; She is fully capable of playing every position along the front row at a very high level.&nbsp; This team will use her blocking abilities to take them very far in the playoffs when they go up against other great attackers.&nbsp; Because she is a matchup nightmare for opposing squads, they will be able to move her around if they choose to and take away their opponents best players.&nbsp; Puzzle pieces like this are a coach's dream to have.&nbsp; Watch how she finishes her high school career on a great note.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='153292' first='Sydney' last='Breon']&nbsp;[2023] 5-11 Outside (HS: Highland Park/Club: [program_tooltip program_id='431308' first='Texas' last='Advantage'] Volleyball/Verbal: UCLA)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"align":"right","id":222260,"width":154,"height":217,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image alignright size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pd/uploads/2022/08/Sydney-Breon-2-scaled-e1661912513364-729x1024.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-222260" width="154" height="217"/></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sydney is currently ranked as the 37^th best overall prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings.&nbsp; She stars on the outside for Highland Park high school and also for the awesome [program_tooltip program_id='431308' first='Texas' last='Advantage'] Volleyball program.&nbsp; This varsity team is stacked with talent in every position and Syd stood out amongst that talent.&nbsp; I loved listening to the crowd and her teammates shout U-C-L-A after every big score from Miss Breon.&nbsp; They faced some serious talent throughout the entire tourney with some big names who were giving them fits, but just when her team needed a big point, Sydney came through.&nbsp; She is the type of player who can change the course of a match no matter which position she is playing.&nbsp; Her experience and talent allow her to exude confidence to her teammates and it really does take them to the next level.&nbsp; They will go as far as her right arm and amazing defense will take them.&nbsp; She is on pace to have a stellar senior season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='179568' first='Isabella' last='Ocampo'] [2025] 5-10 Outside (HS: Highland Park/Club: Dallas Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"align":"left","id":224440,"width":178,"height":236,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"none"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/pd/uploads/2022/09/Bella-Ocampo-3-scaled-e1662652468468-774x1024.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-224440" width="178" height="236"/></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Miss Ocampo is listed as the 38^th best overall prospect in the 2025 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings.&nbsp;She plays at Highland Park High School and the nationally recognized Dallas Skyline club.&nbsp; I wrote about her previously and here is what I stated, <em>“I have watched this young lady play numerous times and every time I watch her, she gets better and better.&nbsp; The power in her right arm is something that lets me know she will be a stud for years to come.&nbsp; The scary part is that she is just now barely getting started.&nbsp;When you watch her play, you can see that she just gets the game on a very high level.&nbsp; Her volleyball IQ is high and coaches across the country are going to love that about her.&nbsp; She is a true six-rotation pin attacker who will excel at the high school level and the next level when she continues to progress.”</em>&nbsp; She has been lights out for this awesome team so far in this young season.&nbsp; When I watched them play at Volleypalooza in person a few weeks ago, Bella looked like a senior who was hungry.&nbsp; And boy was she eating at the net.&nbsp; There were times where she was unstoppable and it was a joy to see.&nbsp; Everything about her game screams, “I Got Next!” And we will be watching it continue to grow over the next few years.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Other notable standouts from this awesome roster are super sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='180179' first='Alex' last='Richter'] in the middle, senior stud [player_tooltip player_id='141130' first='Zoe' last='Winford'] (Georgia Tech), and senior middle Sadie Gruber.&nbsp; They are the front-runners in 6A so far and are ranked as the number one team by a few publications.&nbsp; We will be watching them very closely.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes.&nbsp;
