Ward handled the job of setting a powerful Dakine 17 team remarkably this season, locating her hitters and letting them take advantage of her well-located sets. Ward is powerful and able to push sets to the pin with tempo, and her solid height made for an easy transition for her big middles. Her strength and athleticism (javelin thrower!) show defensively and in her serving as well.

Running the show for the Dakine 17 Surf team, Ward is a scrappy defender who never forgets to play defense first. When she is delivering to her attackers it’s accurate, and in the case of some sets, zero tempo. When she runs that tempo to her high-powered middles, it’s very difficult for anyone to keep the ball off the floor. Ward will help lead Dakine into USAV Nationals, her squad will be competing in the 17 National Division.

Ward is an player to watch from her setter spot. With excellent size and strength, she keeps plays alive and is a team captain and leader for Gig Harbor. A multi-sport athlete, she is a natural blocker and has the body control to stay out of the net when a pass is tight.
