Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
This is another chance to bring up Sumner’s momentous move to VCNebraska 17 Elite for the 2025 club season. The Elkhorn South middle blocker took a huge step forward this fall while completing a fully healthy season for the Storm. She built off the incredibly high hitting efficiency she logged as a sophomore in 2023, hitting 0.311 as a junior. Sumner was particularly adept at ‘gap’ sets that allowed her to work in between opposing hands. Her terminal arm helped lead Elkhorn South to the Class A championship match, and this is just the beginning of Sumner’s rise.

Sumner’s explosiveness gave Elkhorn South’s offense a new layer for opposing teams to think about. The Class of 2026 standout was incredibly terminal in front of the setter and thrived with whatever tempo she was given. Sumner also anchored some extraordinary blocking output for the Storm, as she had five blocks in the semifinal sweep over Grand Island. It’s a good omen for Sumner’s final prep campaign in 2025.

We’re just a few short weeks away from our Nebraska 2026 rankings update, and Sumner is ready to make her ascent on the list. She has shown her willingness to do whatever is necessary to help Premier 16 Gold succeed, and that’s not limited to the middle blocker spot. Sumner has dialed up some aggressive serves in late-season action, especially during 16 Gold’s pre-Nationals preparation. The Elkhorn South star carried that into Las Vegas and is due for a breakout junior season.

2024 could be seen as a new start for Sumner, who was sidelined for a chunk of the 2023 high school season. She is back and better than ever as one of Premier 16 Gold’s most effective terminators. Sumner gets off the floor quickly and offers a large attacking window for her setter to find. This means that Sumner can still find a way to score even when circumstances are not ideal. Her craftiness lifted 16 Gold to an Open triumph at the Show Me Qualifier, setting up another high-profile GJNC outing for this Elkhorn South star.
