About Avery

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am involved with FCA at Penn High School. I’m also apart of 2 choirs: VIVA VOCE & Bella Canto. I have competed in 8 ISSMA solo & ensemble competitions and received Gold for all 8 categories. Outside of school, I volunteer at Granger Community Church: worship leader for Student Ministries, Counselor in Training for kids ministry and participate in the annual Food Drop!

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have had 2 surgeries: a broken foot (8th grade/14U) and a benign tumor in knee removed the following year (15U). The biggest challenge for me was more mental than physical recovery. I knew my body would heal, but I daily battled feeling defeated in trying to play catch up as a Vball player (started late). My love for the game really grew a drive in me and that’s when I developed grit!

What type of college are you looking for?

Bigger, more competitive volleyball program that’s supported by the institution AND student body! Im learning I really thrive and so do others when there’s enthusiastic (school) pride and a supportive culture backing a program. I want to be apart of a culture that motivates, pushes, and holds others accountable to high standards! Our best sets the bar for the rest!
