Middles are one of the more challenging positional groups to sort- at times, tall athletes develop the finer points of the game later than some other players. In this group, we highlight hard-working, athletic players with the raw tools to succeed. Many have already had a successful freshman season on a varsity roster; others are balling out on the club scene across the Pacific Northwest and nationally.
The Kennedy Catholic 2027 covers huge ground patrolling the middle of the net, and has the strong hands to stick down a monster block. We are seeing her growth as a server and an attacker this club season, she has been working hard for Sudden impact 15 Typhoon, Hollis keeps her jump float flat with good pace and is hammering balls through hands to score.
Highlights
Longspaugh may not be long for the middle position, she is taking swings as an outside for her Blue Royals team, and is a consistent scorer. She has a repeatable arm swing and keeps the ball in play making the defense work. Either out of the middle or on the pin, Longspaugh has a big approach that generates excellent power that racks up kills.
Highlights
Parcher is an excellent athlete, starring in basketball at Lynden in addition to being a force in the middle for the volleyball squad. She moves with urgency and is fluid, and Parcher is not afraid to get big at the net and challenge for jousts and overpasses. We hope to see her continue racking up kills and blocks at the same time she is posting double-doubles for the Lions in hoops.
Bernard plays with confidence and had a stand out freshman year at South Kitsap. She racks up blocks with her ability to get up off the court quickly and smother opposing hitters. The Dakine 15 Surf 2027 prospect can snap down a kill off a quick set, she has a whippy arm swing and gets on top of the ball with her excellent vertical. Bernard is quick in transition and is running an excellent 31 in the seam in the early part of the club season.
THREE MORE TO WATCH!
Abby Losey Abby Losey 6'0" | MB North Thurston | 2027 State WA . Losey has a feel for the deposition and the game, reading the block and putting herself in a position to be available to her setter. She will run behind the setter, trail for a quick, and adjust appropriately when an errant pass has the offense in a scramble. Losey will calmly deliver an accurate, stinging swing that has a chance to score in almost any situation, an excellent skill for a 2027 prospect.
Rilyn Kerlee Rilyn Kerlee 6'0" | MB Puyallup | 2027 State WA . The now 6-foot NPJ player did her work primarily in practice this high school season, working on the Puyallup varsity team loaded with talent. Kerlee has already attacked from the OH spot early in the club season for NPJ Seattle, adding to her versatility along the front line. Expect her to continue to refine her game with excellent training at Dakine and the powerful Puyallup program.
Avery Berglund Avery Berglund 6'1" | MB Freeman | 2027 WA . The Freeman Scottie freshman is one of the anchors in the middle for the CPA Benson 15 team that just finished second at the Las Vegas Classic. She is beginning to show increased aggressiveness, attacking overpasses and jousts at the net, and has an excellent connection with her high school teammate Sophia Campbell, who runs the setter spot. Berglund is working hard to turn the ball and score around the block, and she delivered several excellent swings over the weekend.
