USAV GJNC Teams to Watch – 15 American Vol 1

USA Jr Nationals, which will be held in Las Vegas in early July, is the ultimate test to the end of the season as it will bring together all of the teams who have earned a bid to participate. These wonderful teams have proven themselves through a very long and grueling club season and will compete against other top-notch teams who have earned the right to play in this prestigious tourney. We will be highlighting teams and individual players from the 15 American division that we think you should be watching during the tourney in this series of articles. Let's take a look at a few names to know!

[program_tooltip program_id='538544' first='Katy' last='United'] 15 Adidas

[program_tooltip program_id='538544' first='Katy' last='United'] is led by awesome head coach Jojit Coronel who has tons of experience as a college coach. They won their bid by winning championship at the Sunshine Classic National Qualifier in Orlando, FL. They almost upgraded their bid to the Liberty division at Salt Lake by getting fifth overall. They have some solid players throughout their entire roster. In their championship match, they went down big early and showed some great resolve battling back to win the match. This team can fight and will not give up, which makes them very dangerous. They are led by two strong setters running a 6-2 offense, Avery Adamson and Ashlyn Dodd. They both move the ball well and also play amazing defense out of the right back zone. Miss Dodd was also special as an attacker and provided some serious heat with her right arm when her team needed some kills. I watched this team in Orlando and they were very exciting. I love how middle Rahima Kone patrolled the net and played strong above the net. She moves laterally well and reads the pass to make sure that she closes out to the pins to solidify the block. Libero Sydney Herleth showed some really quick footwork as she moved around the court passing, digging, and covering her hitters. I loved how she communicated on the court to all of her teammates. The all around play of outside hitter Reagan Petty in the back row and front row kept this team super aggressive. She was explosive swinging out of the back row when her team needed a score in out of system situations. Left side attacker Madix Krametbauer flexed her muscles many times with some bombs on offense.

Prime 15 Adidas O

Prime won their bid by going undefeated with a perfect 11-0 record and winning the championship at the Salt Lake City Showdown National Qualifier. They are led by head coach Christine Stoeckel. Outside hitter Makayla Ziegler is a force to be reckoned with at the net. She is long, lean, and uses it all to shut down opposing hitters while blocking. Miss Ziegler is a stud that we all need to keep an eye on moving forward. Middle [player_tooltip player_id='523224' first='Whitney' last='Port'] also put up a strong solid wall when she was blocking at the net. She has no fear of any attacker and was ready and willing to fight anyone who came her way. Libero Claire Peo was phenomenal in serve receive as she had a great balanced base and a strong platform to rebound the ball to her setter. Outside hitter Lydia LeVier was super quick with her footwork both off of the net and toward the ball with her approach. I love how bouncy she is and how she doesn't have her feet stick to the ground for too long. You rarely see her heels hit the floor as she moves around the court and this makes her very fast. Setter Samantha McClellan runs a great 5-1 offense by herself and utilizes all of her hitters very well to establish balance in their game plan. This team is one to watch this summer in Las Vegas at nationals. Stay tuned to see how they fare in the tournament.

Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite teams and athletes that will be attending nationals. If you have anyone you think we should watch out for, please shoot me an email with some info at Michael@prepdig.com. Also don't forget to help these kids get more exposure by sharing our stories with your friends. Help us help them by simply retweeting on Twitter or sharing on Facebook. Thanks for following Prep Dig Family!
