Impactful Players From the Beast

The Beast of the Northeast had 32 teams competing over the 2 days of play in Appleton. It was a fun day full of local staples and new faces. Many teams had underclassmen making their presence known and others were led with experienced upperclassmen. But no matter what their roster age was, there was a lot of great volleyball being playing.    Wockenfus is a pack of dynamite and an explosive jumper. She works the inside of the block and tests any off blocker that may be late peeling off the net. Wockenfus will also expose any split she finds in the block for a certain point and rally-ending swing.     Davis is a serious power source for Aquinas. Just as soon as you think you have her figured out as a booming arm she shows off her athletic finesse with crafty well placed shots. A sigh of relief can be heard when she rotates to the backrow but then you soon realize that she presents a low flat and fast serve that requires a quick decision and freezes up most passers.     Neuenschwander uses all of her 6'1 frame and wingspan to create a big presence at the net. She was scoring a ton of points with a slide approach on the right side whether she was the current middle or playing on the right pin. Neuenschwander has a ton of potential as either a middle or right side with a great blocking presence.     I really like what Big Eagle can do with the ball in a number of different situations. She can be chasing the ball down and she still provides something her attackers can take a swing at.     Casey has a really high contact point and she takes a really hard swing on the ball. She can also do a nice thumb down finish that slices down the net. Casey can work the back line after going over the block and then follow that with a shot down the line.     Hebert knows how and when to speed up her armswing in order to power through the block. She can also find the split in the block and expose it with ease. Hebert has a high snap and great ball control to go with it.     Sleeman's armswing speed was generating a lot of power. She takes a really nice swing down the line and at one point she was scoring at will with the line shot. Sleeman's explosive approach and strong swing made her lethal on either pin.     Daniel does a great job of speeding up her swing and going off the blockers hands for an instant point. She can be relied on to execute with power and she should probably be on your radar as an rising prospect. Daniel has a lot of impact on the game and will for the next few years.     House takes a really nice rip on the ball and isn't afraid to work different angles. She was finding all the lines on the court which is something that comes with a lot of reps. House has a great vertical and the power to match and she's just a sophomore so I can't wait to see how her game grows.     Thiel is aggressive at the net and she can take a really solid swing. She also had some big moments and great runs when she'd go back to serve. Thiel also had some solid defensive plays that resulted with big points for the Cardinals.     I couldn't find the roster information for Oconto, so, if you know who #12 is please let me know their name, height, and graduation year!   She did a great job bringing a wide set back into play and making adjustments on the inside set. She knew just when to speed up her arm swing for the kill. She also did a great job of setting up a well-placed block.     Krueger was making some really smart calls when setting the block. She's got great timing and she can place a slick shot over the block and deep in middle back where a rotational defense will have to scramble to recover. Krueger sees the court so well and places the ball perfectly.     Buchholz gets tricky with a roll shot over the block and down the line. It's a perfect tool to use when the defense is in rotational. I get so excited to see a young athlete with this kind of court awareness and ball control. You just know they are going to improve as the season goes and Buchholz will be a fun one to watch play.     Mortenson takes a big approach to the ball and swings hard inside the block to catch an unprepared off blocker. She is a solid athlete, aggressive, and a good leader for her squad. You can tell she pushes herself to better every ball and feed her hitters when she's the distributor.     I really like the way Halverson moves to the ball. She is solid in serve receive and smart as an attacker. Halverson does not shy away from using the blocker's hands when she is attacking.     Oldenburg has a lot of length to work with and she finds a way to get the ball through the block when it is going full blast or using an offspeed swing. She has a good vertical and a solid foundation of fundamentals to go along with clean blocking form. Oldenburg is aggressive at the net and works hard to be active during every play.     Brudos isn't afraid to blast through a block placed in front of her. She makes really solid contact on the ball and can crush it down the line. Brudos is a consistent swing and calls for the ball as much as possible.
