Add These '27 Setters to Your Radar After Top250 Expo Performance

We just wrapped up our first-ever Top 250 Expo, and it was *incredible*! Over 90 players from Nevada came out to show off their skills in front of Prepdig scouts and college coaches who were watching live on BallerTV. Players got to compete in high-energy drills and games, while also getting valuable recruiting tips and making new connections with teammates and coaches. It was a day full of talent, competition, and opportunity!   The class of 2027 has a ton of talent, but we're shining the spotlight on the setters who absolutely slayed it on the court. They showed off their skills and grabbed major attention from scouts and online viewers. Keep reading to see what I observed about each standout and learn more about their setter journey. These athletes are dedicated to their craft and should definitely be on your radar come June 15.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='636809' first='Paydence' last='Manibusan']</h2>   <h3 class="wp-block-heading">5'6” | S | HS: Arbor View | Club: [program_tooltip program_id='636812' first='Vegas' last='United'] | <a href="https://www.instagram.com/paydence_ath/">Instagram Link </a></h3>   <figure class="wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepdig.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2024/11/37-Paydence-Manibusan.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-721510" style="width:304px;height:auto" /></figure>   Scout Notes - Paydence has great movement on the court, always staying active and ready for any play. Her quick set is smooth and precise, and she can even set effectively off one foot if she needs to. She keeps her hands neutral and mixes up her sets to keep the defense guessing. If she has to save a play with a one-handed set, she will and she did in one play at the showcase. On top of all she has a nice float serve, adding another layer to her well-rounded skill set.   How long have you been a setter? "I have been a setter for three years. I was drawn to becoming a setter because it seemed like a leadership type position on the team. I've always like watching high level people play in those positions in sports."   What is your favorite part about setting? "My favorite part of setting is being able to get someone hyped off of a good set that I just gave them. I like the creativity part of it and trying to keep the defense guessing. I want my teammates to trust me in getting them a good set no matter where I'm at on the court"   What are your dream schools? "I would love to go to the University of North Carolina or University of Washington. But realistically, a high goal would be Hawaii Pacific University, Arcadia University, and Pacific Lutheran University. In the end, I'll take any college or University that wants me. She can set and dig at a high level. She's a great communicator and her decision-making skills were spot on when setting to hitters with multiple different attacking styles. She led by example with her aggressive playstyle, whether she's setting, blocking or digging. Her versatility made her a huge asset on her team and she never hesitated to cheer for her teammates, keeping the court energy high.   How long have you been a setter? "I've been a setter since I started playing volleyball in my 13s season with TopFlight Volleyball Academy/ 3ish years ago. I chose to set not only because I naturally had ‘ok' hands but a setter is always needed and that's what my team needed at that point and time and it just stuck with me. (happily)"    What is your favorite part about setting?" My favorite part about setting is my hitters reactions to getting that ‘big kill' that's what really had me hooked on setting."   What are your dream schools? "Some colleges I'm interested in are RENO university, Pacific Lutheran university, and California State university- San Bernardino." She's quick, athletic, and has great decision-making on the court both when setting or attacking. Whether she was setting with accuracy, crushing it in the back row on defense, or attacking hard cross court from the opposite side, she continued to be a threat from start to finish. Her neutral hands when setting help to hold the block and set her hitters up for success, while her experience in beach volleyball shows with her court awareness.   How long have you been a setter? "I started setting about 7 months ago, and I started because my club team didn't have a setter. My coach asked me to step up and take the position of setting for my team. I always have been a hitter and I really wanted to continue hitting so I did both as much as possible. I started enjoying setting more and more and even though I loved hitting, because of my coach believing in me to step up for our team I have become a more versatile player."   What is your favorite part about setting? "My favorite part about setting is being able to be in control and in charge of the offense. I like to think strategically and learn more ways to trick the other side's defense. I also like how I get to be involved more with all the plays. Being a setter allows me to touch the ball every play and get as many reps as possible."   What are your dream schools? "My ultimate dream college would be USC because I love California and I have some family that goes there, playing on the Beach Volleyball team. Being more realistic, I don't have any specific colleges I hope to attend, I am still working on my research to narrow it down. I just want to play somewhere on the West Coast hopefully a division 2 college that has both a indoor and beach program." She really allowed her leadership qualities to shine through and took full advantage of the opportunity to showcase the various types of attacks she can set with ease. AJ made a lasting impression in a short period of time and was one of the best setters in the gym, earning a spot on the <a href="https://prepdig.com/2024/11/dear-recruiters-meet-the-nevada-top-250-all-showcase-team/">All-Showcase Team</a> for her performance.   How long have you been a setter? "I've only been playing volleyball for two years. Before that, I was an all-star cheerleader. When I first started playing volleyball, I was an outside hitter, but my high school coach transitioned me to a setter during my freshman year. I love the challenge of the setter position and the leadership it requires to run the court."   What is your favorite part about setting? "My favorite part of being a setter is having the ability to attack when I'm in the front row and play defense when I'm in the back row. I enjoy being the voice on the court and setting up my teammates for success."   What are your dream schools? "My dream school is the University of Texas, but I'm also interested in attending California State University Long Beach, the University of Tampa, Grand Canyon University, and to stay close to home, The University of Nevada." Her determination to get the second ball instead of calling for help in tough situations really stood out, showcasing her hustle and commitment to being a true setter.   How long have you been a setter? "I've been a setter for 4 years and I choose to be a setter because I love how big a difference setters make in the game and that we are involved in every single play."    What is your favorite part about setting? "My favorite part about setting is when I can trick the other teams blockers or when I get an amazing one handed set."    What are your dream schools? "My top three colleges are University of New Hampshire, Northeastern University, and University of Michigan." She even got to a chance to show some of her versatility by playing right side hitter a few plays.   How long have you been a setter? "I have been a setter for the last 2 years as I started playing volleyball 3 years ago"   What is your favorite part about being a setter? "My favorite part about setting is having the ability to be a leader  along with bonding and communicating with my team both on and off the court"   What are your dream schools? "I am still in the process of searching for schools but i would love to play somewhere near the beach with a great nursing program. Her middle '3' sets are top-tier, and she managed to keep the ball in play even in tough situations. Her ability to read the game allowed her to make smart decisions about who to set during competitions, and she also showcased her solid right-back defense. Chan brings tons of energy to the court, making a big impact every time she plays.   How long have you been a setter? "I have been setting for as long as I've been playing which is about 6-7 years. I chose setting because I wanted to play a big role in the game of volleyball. As a setter, you control the offense and need great leadership on the court. You also play a big role of holding your team together and create big relationships with your team."    What's your favorite part about setting? "My favorite part about setting is being a fixer and helping hitters shine. I love being able to control the game and I enjoy how setters have such a big responsibility like being a leader and connecting the team together."    What are your dream colleges? "My favorite part is being able to control the game."    What colleges are you interested in? "I'm interested in Baylor University, and Notre Dame."
