The Setter Recruitment List: Top Setters at Top250 Expo (Pt. 2)

It was quite the afternoon at the Courts in Beaverton on Sunday, December 22nd. With over 100 athletes from Oregon and Washington gathering to compete, it was a fast-paced and high-energy-filled gym.   To kick off our coverage of the event, we'll be highlighting the top setters from classes 2026 through 2028. These rising stars are already making waves in the volleyball world and will undoubtedly be valuable additions to your recruiting list.    Lyman showcased her impressive setting skills from the very start of the Top 250 showcase, immediately capturing our attention with her ability to move her feet efficiently and position herself well to get her hands on the ball. On an in-system pass, her setting technique displayed a smooth and consistent rhythm, allowing her hitters to find their timing and execute effectively. Additionally, Lyman's defensive coverage from the right-back position was solid, demonstrating both awareness and reliability in keeping plays alive     Bhutani entered the Top 250 showcase as an unknown athlete, commuting from Seattle. However, it didn't take long for her to make a strong impression and leave her mark by the end of the event. Bhutani's athleticism and quickness stood out as she moved effortlessly to the ball, staying light on her feet and demonstrating a soft, controlled touch. During gameplay, she showcased impressive court awareness, making smart decisions about when to dump and when to set against the grain to keep opponents guessing. Her ability to consistently connect with middles was another highlight of her performance. With her current skill set and natural talent, Bhutani is undoubtedly an exciting athlete to watch as she continues to grow and refine her game.     Becker delivered a standout performance at the Top 250 Expo, solidifying her position as one of the top setters in attendance. A familiar face at our showcases, she returned to this event even more athletic and physically dynamic than before. Her natural hand strength allowed her to effortlessly push the ball to the pins with precision, and her ability to set against the grain consistently kept defenders on their toes. Her jump set has developed significantly over the last year, and she executed it seamlessly when in rhythm, adding another layer to her game. Beyond her technical skills, Becker brings an undeniable competitive fire to the court. She is poised to become a highly sought-after recruit, and it will be exciting to watch her continue to develop and refine her already impressive skill set.     Lewis was a thrilling young talent to watch at the Top 250 Expo, where she displayed a combination of skill, athleticism, and immense potential. Standing at 6-1 and being left-handed, she brings unique attributes that set her apart and give her a high recruiting ceiling. As a setter, Lewis moves with speed and precision, consistently getting her hands on the ball and maintaining control in challenging situations, which was noted during gameplay. When attacking, she is explosive and delivers powerful, heavy swings, showcasing her versatility and dominance on the court. With her combination of size, athletic ability, skill level, and untapped potential, Lewis is on track to become a top national recruit from the class of 2028. Her continued growth and development will undoubtedly be exciting to watch.   It is important to note that Lewis navigates a unique path by attending Deerfield Academy, a prestigious boarding school in Massachusetts while training with Athena 15 Gold in Beaverton during the club season.     Westermeyer was an exciting athlete to watch at the Top 250 Expo, showcasing her impressive skill and natural talent. During warm-ups, she immediately caught our attention with her quick arm swing when attacking. As the event progressed into position-specific work, Westermeyer truly shined in her craft, demonstrating excellent rhythm and tempo in her sets. On in-system passes, she consistently utilized her jump set with precision and confidence, adding an extra layer of sophistication to her game. During live gameplay, she showed great court awareness by establishing her middles early and continuing to incorporate them effectively in transition. Only a freshman, Westermeyer's talent and potential are undeniable.
