<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>President's Day weekend is one of the biggest volleyball weekends of the season. Teams from Wisconsin played across the Midwest. Though I love being in the gym this weekend, the addition of our son to our family in early January was the perfect reason to stay home and do virtual coverage of various tournaments.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I watched matches all three days for teams who competed at the: </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Nike President's Day Classic in Saint Louis, Missouri</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Mizuno SPVB President's Day Challenge in Aurora, Illinois</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Nike President's Cup in Milwaukee, Wisconsin</li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Several Wisconsin teams participated in these highly competitive tournaments. She can swing around blocks and pick her shots well. She is one of the top-ranked athletes in her class for a reason, playing up a year as well. Her volleyball IQ is incredibly high, and she is confident on the court. She could pick up balls from corner to corner and consistently make several defensive plays within a single point. Her serve receive was solid and balls rarely dropped near her. When she was in the front row she played solid defense and could manufacture points off her pass. She is incredibly smart with her shots and adjusts very well to any set she is given. It was a lot of fun watching her rip line shots, earning points nearly every time she chose that shot. She is aggressive and lethal as a hitter. She has a huge vertical and a high contact on the ball. Her aggressive choices and solid ball control help her make smart choices while still earning points. Lauren is also a high-level passer in both serve receive and defense. She wasn't afraid to take some massive rips on the ball, but what really made her stand out was her ability to put in competitive swings on out-of-system sets.
