The Queen of the Quad Tournament kicked off this past weekend with some serious talent on display. There were teams from numerous states showcasing their skills and vying for hardware and crowns as prizes. As I walked around the facility, the following players caught my attention for one reason or another.

Remember to follow me on Instagram @Prepdigamy and Facebook @PrepDig Amy for up to date event coverage, stories, and more.

Montez displayed some big skills and serious grit on the court. She was especially impressive on serve receive, passing effectively off her midline and delivering passes repeatedly to target. This allowed her offense to stay in system and take home the first place hardware. Her defense was also very good. She reads the opposing teams setter and offense well. She positions herself correctly and picked up numerous dumps and tips and effective dug hard sharp cross shots.

This girl can play…and especially for someone so young (c/o 2029)! As a 6 rotation outside, Kirk displayed tremendous explosiveness and power. She used this to not only take big rips from the middle back, but she lethal shots from both pins and out of the middle. Kirk already has good court awareness, transition effectively, and has a really quick arm swing that translated into many kills for her team. Kirk will be one to keep tabs for several years as her volleyball career is just beginning.

Martin was a fierce attacker and dynamic setter this weekend. The first time I saw her play, she was mostly attacking from the right side pin. She racked up numerous kills going down the line and deep cross. I didn't even know she was a setter honestly until I saw her on day 2 and discovered that her setting is equally as good as her hitting. Martin has good footwork, moves quickly to get to the ball which ensures her to deliver a clean, consistent set to her attackers. She has also has quite a range on her. She launched several sets out of the pocket that showed her high skill level.

Tucke is a quick moving middle, with a lightening fast arm swing making her hard to stop. When left in system, the ball is sent routinely her way and she terminates nonstop. Tucke also moves quickly on defense. Combine her quickness with her good footwork and she proved to be a blocking force at the net.

Holthaus did a fantastic job running the offense for her Iowa Elite team as they battled through the tournament. She has great hands and delivers a clean, consistent ball to her attackers. What sets her apart from her peers is that she has excellent court vision. She reads the opposing teams defense very well and thus is able to isolate her attackers setting them up one on one against the defense. She will also throw down setter dumps that teams didn't see coming allowing her to score repeatedly herself.

Schryver is a 6 rotation middle that brought her A-game to the Queen of the Quad. Schryver transitions quickly on both offense and defense. She could be seen taking big swings with her quick arm swing from the middle and also on the pins. Due to her speed and ability to read, she was a highly effectively blocker and had some big blocks in key moments for her team. Schryver also plays the backrow, where she not only was solid in serve receive but in defense as well.
