Miss Smith has caught my attention every time I have seen her compete and it is not always for the same reason, which tells you something about how complete her game is developing. She passes well enough to stay on the floor in serve receive, she attacks with intention rather than just effort and she competes with a consistency that a lot of players her age have not figured out yet. Sunday gives her a chance to show that game in front of college coaches and scouts who have not had the opportunity to see her in person and I think she is going to make an impression. She is exactly the kind of player this showcase was built for. Stay tuned to see what the court coaches and I see from her.

Miss Smith is developing inside one of the more competitive volleyball districts in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, an area that consistently produces nationally ranked talent across every position. By playing against that talent in both high school and club, it will sharpen her skills so much. If there is anything that I know about watching this talent pool over the last 25 years, it is that iron truly does sharpen iron. Watching how she reads a block she has not seen before and how she adjusts her approach angle against unfamiliar defenders will tell evaluators a great deal about her readiness to handle top competition. I have seen her before as she came to one of our exposure tours last year and she put on a great show.  She also has tons of highlight reels online to help scouts keep track of her game.  Gianna has a very strong upper body that generates lots of power in her attack.  We are happy to see her again at nationals.
