Expert Analysis
Guilherme Torres | Prep Dig Scout
A high-flying outside hitter, Tchouangwa is HJV 18 Elite’s main scoring option. Capable of scoring at a very high rate from either pin and the backcourt, she’s one of the most lethal hitters in the entire state, getting up really high at the net and unleashing tremendous power on her swings. Tchouangwa is very resourceful and consistent and thrives in big moments too. The pin hitter can also put up a big block at the net and makes a big impact on the backcourt with her passing and defense – although that area of her game is often overlooked because of her flashy offense.

An athletic freak, Tchouangwa was the main scoring option for division winners HJV 18 Elite. Her strength at the net was really unmatched as the pin hitter was capable of consistently scoring in a variety of ways. Tchouangwa is nearly impossible to stop when in system because she’s a phenomenal jumper, who makes contact with the ball at a very high point and has a cannon of a right arm. She was also able to develop new shots over the year and that has really shown over the last two seasons, when she began using them more frequently. An underrated aspect of her game is her passing, which is critical for the success of HJV 18 Elite, who use Farah Farooq Farah Farooq 6'1" | MB Episcopal | 2023 State TX , originally a middle, at the other pin position.

After carrying the offense of her high school team Tompkins from the right, Tchouangwa is back at her original pin hitter position with HJV 18 Elite and will be one of the most lethal attackers in the 18 Open division. Extremely athletic, she’s an outstanding offensive player, who not only jumps high and hits the ball hard but also who delivers in the big moments. Because Tchouangwa’s offense is so impressive, sometimes it feels like her backcourt skills are overlooked, but make no mistake, she’s a very reliable passer and a player who can make big digs on defense.

Tompkins have several players with incredible talent in their roster, but if there’s one of them with the potential to take a match over against anyone, that’s Tchouangwa. The athletic right side hitter has been a force at the net and has delivered excellent performances in the playoffs, scoring in bunches and in critical moments for the Falcon. Due to her background as an outside hitter, Tchouangwa is also having solid contributions with her passing and defense too. She leads the team in kills (590) and blocks (51) and ranks second in digs (504) and fourth in passes (362).

Not many people expected Tuesday’s match between Tompkins and Ridge Point to end in three sets but it did, in great part, thanks to Tchouangwa. Tompkins’ athletic right side hitter was on fire and produced an impressive triple-double of 21 kills, 20 passes and 17 digs. Perhaps more important than the stats, however, was the timing of some of her plays as she played a key role in the Falcons’ comebacks on sets one and two.

Tompkins’ explosive right side hitter didn’t hold anything back and had several impressive offensive plays, most notably a swing that bounced inside the attack line on set one in one of her 21 kills. Her impressive plays positively impacted her teammates as it was after a strong swing from her off of an overpass that the Falcons mounted their incredible comeback on set one. Tchouangwa was really smart to mix it up and use tips on some occasions too and was set 43 times, leaving the court on game point with cramps in her legs. She also was solid with her passing (20) and made good plays on defense, tallying 17 digs.
