Conference play is well underway in the state of Wisconsin, and the competition is heating up. Here are some notable matches (and wins!) from the Tuesday marathon of matches across the area.

New Berlin West over Pewaukee in 5 Sets

This match was an absolute thriller. Pewaukee took the 1st set. Then New Berlin West rallied to take the next 2. Pewaukee dominated in the 4th set with a 25-17 win, the biggest point spread of the night. But New Berlin West clinched the win on their home court in the 5th.

Sophomore outside hitter for New Berlin, [player_tooltip player_id='586861' first='Willow' last='Kumprey'], was key in every aspect of the game with 16 kills and a 0.382 hitting percentage. She also contributed 2 aces, 2 blocks, 9 digs, and 20 service receptions. The setters for this team put in work. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='388470' first='Haidyn' last='Klemstein'] (5 kills, 5 aces, 6 digs, 21 assists) and Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='583939' first='Mikayla' last='Martin'] (8 kills, 2 aces, 3 blocks, 5 digs, 20 assists) were both huge impact players in every protation. Libero [player_tooltip player_id='435898' first='Morgan' last='Kopischke'] was a steady force in the back row, leading the team in digs and service receptions and contributing 3 aces as well.

Arrowhead swept Mukwonago

Arrowhead had a dominant sweep over Mukwonago with a 25-11, 25-20, 25-14 sweep in conference play. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='277427' first='Claire' last='Wyma'] was absolutely dominant, hitting 0.385 with 13 kills on 26 attempts and only 3 errors. Claire also contributed 2 aces and 8 digs. Junior setter [player_tooltip player_id='509343' first='Taylor' last='Wold'] had 28 assists, 10 digs, 3 aces, and 2 kills. Taylor is a huge energizer and natural leader on the court. Wold spread her offense incredibly well with numerous hitters involved, including junior middle [player_tooltip player_id='810252' first='Addie' last='Merck'] (8 kills on 15 attempts and 0 errors), senior outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id='277436' first='Leila' last='Arens'] (9 kills on 21 attempts with 0 errors), and junior pin [player_tooltip player_id='486283' first='Natalie' last='Krogwold'] (5 kills on 16 attempts with 2 errors). This team is nothing but efficient, serving at 96% as a team and only having 2 reception errors. They will be a team to beat later in the season.

Waukesha North swept Greendale

Waukesha North is making a statement as it joins the Woodland Conference this year. They have had a very successful season so far and are only continuing that into conference play. Senior outside hitter, [player_tooltip player_id='284081' first='Sophia' last='Hultman'], was a huge force with 11 kills and hitting 0.400. She also had 4 aces, 6 digs, and led the team in service receptions. Freshman pin Ryanne Eagon was another big weapon at the net with 7 kills and 2 blocks. She also had 2 aces, 6 digs, and 8 assists. Senior DS/L Katie Brauhn led the way on defense and serve receive. When I saw this team play at the Crusader Cup, what stood out the most was the true team effort. They are a team on the rise and one that will not go down without a fight. They are currently 2-1 in conference play and competing for one of the top spots in the Woodland West.

Homestead swept Nicolet

Homestead and Nicolet battled in the first set, but after Homestead won 25-21, they ran away with the match. Freshman [player_tooltip player_id='837168' first='Reese' last='Lalonde'] was a massive presence on offense with 16 kills and hitting 0.842. These are just incredible numbers. Sophomore middle [player_tooltip player_id='771019' first='Jessica' last='Knoblock'] also had a huge game with 5 kills on 11 attempts. [player_tooltip player_id='249633' first='Anya' last='Mikhailenko'] was a steady force, with 30 assists, 8 digs, 2 blocks, 5 kills, and an ace. She is a 6-rotation leader for this team who impacts every single play.
