Team Radar: Spirit 16 Black is a High Potential Squad

This is a squad that jumped onto the scene during their 15U effort last year with a lot to offer individually and collectively and now features four prospects at #35 or higher in Prep Dig's most recent Ohio 2028 rankings. The core group returning feature some high potential in various phases of the game and through different roles. Additionally, they added key talent that will increase the overall effort and competitiveness through all six rotations.   Here is a look at their eight-player roster as each member has an opportunity to be a big factor throughout the club season, which will start for them at The Nike Classic later this month. It also appears that they have upgraded their tournament schedule for 2026, including multiple national qualifiers, which brings more opportunities to compete against high quality opponents more often in addition to growing their exposure individually as the recruiting aspect ramps up over the next several months for the 2028 class in general. Be sure to get a look at them as they will be fun to watch!    Smith's athleticism and physicality as an attacker is among the best in this Ohio 2028 class. Currently making an impact for Huron's basketball team, she was huge for their volleyball team this past fall, leading them offensively with an emphatic arm in her ability to score with power and range. Her length and quickness are also a big factor defensively through the pins as she moves efficiently both laterally and in her lift off the floor.     One of the best left-handed attackers in the Ohio 2028 class, Dimacchia is a key returning threat for this offense that is poised to score a lot of points. Her physical tools are impressive as displayed by what she did this past high school season in leading Elyria Catholic to a lot of wins and a deep postseason run. She gets up and opens her shoulders well to allow her to swing with good heat and control to move the ball around. Look for her as a go-to arm in key moments.     Hotz is their floor leader and the guide to this offense that has high potential for point scoring volume in each rotation. She is precise in her location that starts with her athleticism, efficient pursuit of the ball, and high hand touch and extension. Coming off a solid fall high school season with Huron, this added competitive experience, combined with multiple Huron teammates on this roster, make for a great combination towards their success over the next several months.     Huron's libero and leader in total digs with 410 in 2025, Van Sickle continues to establish herself as one of the best DS/L prospects in this Ohio 2028 class. She stabilizes their offense in serve receive, which will be key for this team and the balance of offense they hope to create with big presence in the middle and at the pins. Defensively, her quickness and range of pursuit create good opportunities to extend rallies and give her team quality point scoring chances.     Cadelario is also establishing her game and impact as a top lefty. She is an aggressive attacker with good versatility to score from both sides of the court and through middle options. When on time in the air, she can produce impressive arm speed while also showing good awareness to make other types of shots and movement when necessary and to keep the pressure on the defense. She averaged 2.1 k/s for Steele this past fall.     Much like others on this team, Sanfilippo is a solid multi-sport athlete. Her volleyball skills continue to advance as a left side attacker and this opportunity with Spirit will continue to challenge her in all the right ways towards further developing her tools and increase her impact as a point scorer at the net. At 5'10, the SJA product has a good offensive base in her movement and arm, which increases the depth of options around the court for this group, along with her experience as part of the core returning pieces back again this season.     Holmes saw good action for Northview this past fall season, contributing offensively when needed outside their primary arms. Her impact on the defensive side was greater as she averaged nearly two blocks per match. As she makes the move to join this squad for this club cycle, she adds depth to their offense from the middle while elevating what their defense will bring at the net given her length and extension over the net at 6'2.     Dinya is another prospect making the move to Spirit this club season after playing as a primary libero for her previous club. Her ball control and defensive tools will help bring more quickness and pursuit to the back row, which could be a key area of the game for this team that features some big offensive potential. She reads the court well and reacts with big effort to extend her platform and create good range outside of her 5'3 frame and to the floor if needed.
