Classics in the 16 Open at Can Am

This year's edition of the international clash was truly one for the books.</p>   <p>The Midwest teams in attendance, once again, showed up, showed out and dominated. The 16 Open Division saw a nice mix of both the best in the 16s division right now as well as the 15s. There was even an insane 14s squad up in here too. The range in ages and level created a fun atmosphere of competition to the championship.</p>   <p>Let's break it all down of who all shined the brightest. There are plenty of names to discuss, be sure to check out these athletes!</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='569767' first='Quinn' last='Nelson'] - Legacy</h2>   <p>In all six rotations, [player_tooltip player_id='569767' first='Quinn' last='Nelson'] brings a lot of versatility to the court. With her growing ability to be a dominating attacker and her steady presence in the back court, Nelson provides the steadiness you want in an outside hitter at this level. Down the stretch of the weekend, Nelson's scoring was a clutch piece to the championship puzzle for 16 Adidas.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='553151' first='Ashlyn' last='Pelon'] - Legacy</h2>   <p>This is very much the best libero in the class and there's no questions asked about it. I've always been high up on [player_tooltip player_id='553151' first='Ashlyn' last='Pelon'], but she continues to find ways to impress with me despite such ample viewing. While she continues to own the key attributes in the position, it is her greater court presence and leadership that shown greatly in Detroit.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='569772' first='Lauren' last='Sheldon'] - Legacy</h2>   <p>We don't talk about [player_tooltip player_id='569772' first='Lauren' last='Sheldon'] enough. I've said it before, just want to throw it out there again. Despite the absence of [player_tooltip player_id='574175' first='Payton' last='Woodruff'] at the setter position, in a position that is so dependent on connection, Sheldon proves to be an electric weapon off of any player. It's this type of interchangeable play that allows 16 Adidas to continue to have such success in face of injury.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='850509' first='Honor' last='Durham'] - Circle City</h2>   <p>She's only a 15s player, but man, does [player_tooltip player_id='850509' first='Honor' last='Durham'] play well beyond her age suggests. Watching this setter chuck around the ball from all angles of the court with the ease and precision that she does, WOW! When you watch her run the show, it is no wonder how 15 Purple ended up in the championship of the 16 Open bracket. </p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='546218' first='Anna' last='Smith'] - Circle City</h2>   <p>When you have a go to option on the left side like [player_tooltip player_id='546218' first='Anna' last='Smith'], the game becomes so much easier. Well, not for the other team. Smith is a booming source of point production on the left side. She's a relentless attacker, bringing in the heat on just about any ball she receives. Smith backs this up with a nice touch on the ball with her first contact, furthering her and her team's ability to score.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='546224' first='Allison' last='Bourff'] - Circle City</h2>   <p>Talk about a towering presence in the middle, an [player_tooltip player_id='546224' first='Allison' last='Bourff'] kill is not one you want to be on the receiving end of. While listed at 6'1, Bourff seems to play the game at a much higher level. When she launches into the stratosphere and brings down the thunder, it's quite the sight to behold.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='977222' first='Reegan' last='Klinski'] - Five:1</h2>   <p>Like we previewed going into the weekend, [player_tooltip player_id='977222' first='Reegan' last='Klinski'] is very much making her presence known. A huge key to their run into the 16 Open Gold Bracket, Klinski was a driving force. Her offense is going at a new high and she's finding herself in great position for blocks and touches at the net, allowing her team to stay in the big matches.</p>
