Expert Analysis

Melissa Smith

Prep Dig Scout

Smith brings an impressive combination of size, strength, and versatility to the pin, with the ability to attack effectively from both sides of the court. She pairs a disciplined block with a steady, composed demeanor that stands out for a sophomore. However, it was her backrow play that truly separated her in this regional matchup. Smith was the most consistent passer on the court and an exceptional defensive presence, recording 17 digs in just four sets. Her ability to impact the game in every phase made her the most well-rounded player on the court that day and I look for her to have lots of recruiting action come this club season.

Athletic and quick, Anna’s ability to turn defense into offense in the blink of an eye is fun to watch. I know, I know, she’s not that big. What the casual observer doesn’t know is that her relentless play and never-ending supply of energy for each and every point can place her in a bunch of different positional situations, making her stock rise with her ability to do a little of everything on the volleyball court. I look forward to her first varsity season this coming fall and how she adjusts to big girl play.
