Prep Dig Rachel's Gauntlet Athletes Who Wowed | Sting Center

Every scout or coach has their 'wow' moments when watching matches. Skills or styles of play that just make them stop and appreciate the game. For me, it's grit and leadership. It's the ability to deliver in high-pressure moments while still putting in the same effort and competitiveness early in matches or when no one is looking. It's the competitiveness and drive to win, whether their team is up by 10 points or battling to come back. Most importantly, I love athletes who do it for the team, who pick up their teammates when they are down, who celebrate their teammates' wins and great plays, and who make the play easier for the next person who touches the ball. Let's take a look at some of the players who WOWED me at the Prep Dig Gauntlet.    Olivia was an explosive go-to hitter for 1st Alliance 15 Gold. She is a lefty with a lot of length that she uses to her advantage at the net. When she was in the front row, her setters consistently fed her the ball, and she could terminate at an incredibly high efficiency. She was very well-rounded and disciplined in her play. Olivia was quick in transition, put up a consistent, strong block, and was confident and aggressive with her swings.     The first thing that wowed me with Ella's play was her out of system setting. It was clean, precise, and bettered the ball for her hitters. Her team was able to terminate and earn points consistently off her sets. The next thing that impressed me was her serve receive. Ella covered a good portion of the court by herself and had a lightning-fast reaction time. She was a well-rounded libero with so much to offer her team.     Olivia was an absolute force of nature on the court. She took huge rips on the ball and had a lethal line shot that stumped even the best liberos in the tournament. What stood about about Olivia is she did not solely rely on that high-level shot. She mixed up her shot locations and speed, making her tough to predict. Olivia was a good defender at the net, and was a contrubitor with her block as well.     Presley's performance was tough to miss. She was a court commander and the type of athlete who battled every moment of every play of every point. She was relentless on the court and made numerous key hustle plays just in the time I was watching. Her great ball control gave her that much more command of every situation.     Tatum's volleyball IQ was some of the best in the gym. I would regularly see her check blockers locations and adjust her setting decision. She also utilized every hitter and fed her middles even when she was far off the net. Tatum knew each of her hitters well and kept the tempo fast. She never seemed surprised by a situation and was one of the biggest leaders on her team.     Audrey was simply amazing to watch play volleyball. Her physical talent and strategic understanding of the game were so perfectly in balance with eachother that she just seemed seamless on the court. She was an offensive weapon in all six rotations and took absolutely massive swings. Her shot selection was smart, powerful, and precise and she rarely made errors. Audrey was equally as impactful on defense, serve receive, and from the service line. She was gritty and had great endurance throughout long matches and rallies.     Quinn's energy on the court is so electric it can change the entire chemistry of the match. She is an energizer, leader, and the type of player who everyone knows will give every ounce of energy and effort she has for the team. As a setter and right side she delivered in every aspect of the game. Her defense is also incredibly strong. Quinn is also highly competitive and refused to go down without a fight at any point this weekend.     Ava would run through the wall for a ball. Or a ref stand, which I did see happen. She is simply that driven and has that much hustle. Ava takes hustle and grit to the next level when she plays and it made her a huge leader for her team. Despite her high level of energy, she was able to keep things calm when in-system and control the ball very well.
